The new Athlon 64 is up and running, and everything seems good so far. Very speedy! And running very much cooler than the Athlon XP that used to be in this box

for some reason, the thought of an athlon64 with a 5.25" drive appeals to me :)
I'm still working out all the kinks in my upgraded system. Like why SATA RAID 0 on a shiny nForce4 is slower than a single drive on a 3 year old board. And why it's about as stable as a tapdancer in a ball-bearing factory.
I'm making progress, now all I need is a 5.25" drive!
This new board came with fancy round IDE cables, but I found that they weren't as fast as the flat ones I'd been using. Mine's only an nForce 3 (EPox EP-9NDA3+) and I'm still using the IDE without any RAID but I'm quite happy with the speed I'm getting. With the flat cables, that is. Have you checked your RAM for errors? These might be the cause of your stability troubles. I found Microsoft's memory checker to actually work quite well, surprisingly enough.
My round cables (still used on caddy and dvd-rw) are shielded, and seem to work ok, but the ones that came with the new board weren't. i tossed them aside in disgust. the new SATA a cables are so much neater though, far less clutter

The nForce firewall may be your problem, if it's a known plague area. I don't have it enabled on mine and haven't had any troubles, but I'm also not having any trouble with the Cool'n'Quiet. I'm using the standard fan and haven't had it go over 34 degrees even when rendering video. I considered PCI-e for a while - the video cards are incredibly cheap compared to AGP ones at the moment - but figured that I may as well stick with cards that I already own. I'm thinking that this board will keep me happy for quite some time now.
