Given we are experiencing, to some extent, similar circumstances as to previously - is anyone suffering relapses to death tolls again? Or, for that matter, any other physical injuries or ailments ( Read more... )

I have some minor wounds - scratches at best - which would appear to be self-inflicted. I most certainly did not inflict them.

I'm trying to think of probable cause.

I was certainly considering finding you next time I was in the infirmary, so stay where you are.

There must be a rational explanation for it.

What's that got to do with anything?

I was interested - call it a matter of curiosity - men of science and theology do not mix often, and I was wondering as to the beliefs of my fellow scientists.

You're not obliged to answer.

Is that what you believe it is?

Did you believe in Heaven and Hell before you came here?

No.

Fair enough. Two questions, somewhat related: why not? and how do you rationalise this place, to yourself?

I've never felt moved spiritually.

And I try not to. [ This is some exceptionally dry humor, if you squint. Maybe. ]

So you are saying you never felt the presence of any higher power or entity?

But surely, we all must have made attempts to rationalise it one way or another.

[Sciencey Filter] if that's cool xD inhistorybooks October 27 2011, 00:52:17 UTC
Nope. Religion kinda got fazed out as a practice over the last century or so. Most people on Earth don't really believe in any of it anymore.

Re: [Sciencey Filter] naturally! iam_aghost October 27 2011, 00:58:36 UTC
So you've... never experienced religion, personally?

Having said that, then, what do you make of people from the past who do?

I guess I can see the logic in wanting somethin' to believe in, it's just kinda weird to think how crazy people got about something they couldn't prove.

I don't judge people for it or anythin', if that's what you're asking.

Actually, it wasn't what I was really interested in - from a distance, you certainly don't seem like the judgemental sort.

I more wondered how something you never experienced, or knew someone who did, then affected how you acted to others that thought of it as commonplace.

Certainly not.

Can I ask why?

And then how you rationalise... this - not current events, but the whole place?

What reason could I possibly have for believing in an Earth superstition?

As for the ship, there's not much that needs rationalizing. There's very little here that the Time Lords couldn't mimic with the proper resources and equipment devoted to it.

...Do you not have your own similar superstitions?

Including 'resurrection', so to speak?
