so here is where my trip takes one of two courses: the insanely happy, overly excited never coming back to america route or the pitiful, hateful, and homesick whimpering route.  i think that this will sound sound like one but really be neither.  i am not having the best time of my life here, but i expected that. it isn't horrible and i don't think ( Read more... )

Now you know why the study abroad office give out those pamphlets to parents on how to deal with children that come home relieved to be home, but hating America.
Americans abroad tend to be just that, Americans abrad.
I feel badly for your groupy situation, just try and have all your own fun, get all zen like and what not, see cool nifty things, your in China after all! And that is a chance most people never have.
I wish I had given you Alain De Botton's (The Proust Boy) The Art of Travel to read on the way over, I think it would have hit you in all the right places.

Come home so I can laugh at with you.

yeah, meiguoren (americans) suck. but i am more than happy to be one. ugh. i dunno. i am just going to go off on my own a hell of a lot more now. i have made an executive decision and please hold me to it: no alcohol, no smoking, and no getting conned into going out. forever. totally not worth it. i just want to go out and take pictures and get through this. i don't think i will hate america when i come back, but i will definitely be relieved. i am sure i will look back on this and appreciate it one day.

Sweet Afton came on as I began reading your post. It seemed appropriate and made me miss you even more. I'm actually really glad I didn't end up hanging out with the other 美国人 the last half of my trip. Even though at the time I was sad that they didn't want to hang out with me. Come home so we can do stuff together! Oh, and bring back pictures =)

you know, this is exactly how i feel every time i go abroad (god why is it that everything americans touch turns to shit when they're abroad?)

it looks like you've had a lot of a fun (and have lost some weight! i have a feeling you're probably happy about that.)

we will have to hang out whenever you're around again.

oh and yeah, it always does seem like it's the "let's get as trashed as possible every night," kids that make it suck.
