WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE VEGGIE?

Oct 08, 2008 20:50

I'm question happy today :D.

What's your favorite veggie? Either raw or to cook with? I downright LOVE brussels sprouts. I always have, but I'm a pretty umami kind of person. I love savory, and there's so much to work with in the flavors of a brussels sprout.

Asparagus!!!! It's one of the best. Close up is broccoli, arugula and spinach.

Brussel Sprouts are the devil, how do you ever make them tasty?

oh. man. asparagus is great.

how do I make them tasty? buy them fresh, then cook them in a bit of butter, some chopped garlic, and a bit of fresh dill.

alternatively? you'll think I'm nuts, but I candy them. butter and brown sugar braising. I know it works for spinach and they're kinda similar in root, candied brussels sprouts are freaking wicked. bit of nutmeg? mm. that even makes the frozen ones good.

You can cream them too. simmer them in a bit of garlic and a light cheese sauce until they fall apart. they're better that way if you cut them in half.

I've never had arugala. I feel deprived.

I love all vegetables. I could eat brussel sprouts 24/7. Totally love beets. Summer squash is so great. Corn, beans, brocolli, carrots, zucchini and cauliflower. So So good! The only vegetable that I am not in rapture with is peas. But, even still I eat peas.

The best meal I ever had was a summer meal in Wisconsin. The star of the meal was Silver Dollar squash. My Mom made corn on the cob, fresh green beans, beets and boiled eggs. It was so good!

oh, man. Squash. Have you ever had spaghetti squash? That stuff is freaking amazing. If you're unfamiliar, it's tender like squash but it's ribbons like spaghetti, and it holds up to a sauce amazingly well. I just had it for the first time a month or so ago, I'm hooked.

I can't say I've had silver dollar squash. Is it a sauteeing kinda squash?

Beets are great. People get freaked out by them and I am clueless as to why. I'm gonna take a poll later, but I'm pretty sure they're one of everyone's least favorite veggies.

I haven't eaten Spaghetti Squash, but it is definitely something I want to try. I think my Mom made up the name silver dollar squash, just because of its shape. It is green, round with ridges. Very mild taste, almost cabbage like. (Love cabbage too)! About the size of a filet mignon.

I recently had to make a snack for my boyfriend and I didn't have much on hand so, I gave him cooked carrots and leftover chicken. He was floored! Yes! Another animal eater converted!

Ever had edamame? If you like green beans you'd probably love them.

I've recently started cooking with aubergine and I can't get enough. I can't believe I never ate garlic very often either. I don't cook with aubergine all that often, I cook with red onion and garlic nearly every day (healthy heart foods), and usually peppers too.

I love vegetables and I always add two or three times as many as most people probably would to dishes!

Something I want to start cooking with is fennel.

What kinds of things do you do with brussels sprouts? I love them but I always forget about them.

Oh, I agree. I'm starting to get spoiled about having aubergines in my pasta sauce. It's really an underutilized vegetable ( ... )
