I think your headline is a little misleading. According to the article, powder based formula is a bad idea for premature infants. Liquid would appear to be fine. And there is nothing about formula overall being a bad idea for all babies.

And I have a question for you. If you can't breastfeed, due to low milk supply or inability to latch or what have you, what do you want a baby to be fed, if not formula? I know people donate breastmilk, but so far as I can find out, there is not enough for all babies who can't be breastfed by their mom's. So what would you have people do? Just not feed their babies?

My two nieces were almost exclusively fed formula, because my sister in laws milk just wasn't enough for them. One is 8, the other is 5, and they are both very healthy, very happy, perfectly normal little girls.

I'm far from being a lactivist, but of all the issues surrounding having a child, this is the one I feel most strongly about. I think the formula companies have done a brilliant job convincing mothers that their breastmilk is neither good enough nor plentiful enough to feed their children ( ... )
