i took a class my freshman year called "american history, 1877-present" and all the teacher talked about was nascar ... she got guest speakers to come in and talk about its importance to our country and all this other stuff. instead of talking about wars, civil rights, or something important, we discussed nascar.

..also, my parents are going to a nascar race this weekend. awesome.
