calling all html geeks!

Apr 14, 2008 11:26

there was an html code i saw somewhere that prohibited a user from stealing an image by dragging and dropping it to a desktop. i'm sure this isn't foolproof - this is more to deter the casual user from stealing my work.

but i can't find it anywhere!

can anyone help me? please, thanks.

Honestly hun ...doesn't matter what html or code is used. And I know this first hand cause I've always been pretty sneaky about saving images despite the lengths some people go through with coding to stop it. And yes that includes even looking at the sites source to find which directory and the name of the file. Your best bet is to watermark it or just doing what Jayleen( http://guruubii.deviantart.com ) does and putting a transparent layer with your name and the year over the image. It does detract from things but so long as thieves are out there...it does stop them from reproducing things.

I know it's not the advice you wanted but I hope it helps. If anything I highly suggest Deviant Art as it has it's own watermarking of sorts that even I've started to use just in case.

I've come across sites who put a clear "cover" over their images to keep them from being snagged--when someone tries to save the file, all they get is a blank image. Not sure how that's done, if it's in the file itself or something html-based, but it's something to look into perhaps.

Good luck!

you wouldn't happen to have a url of a site that uses that kind of thing, do you?

Sadly, it has been too long since I happened across such a site. If I could help, I definitely would!
