Martha, do you ever ask strangers to take their photos? This is something I'm trying to work on this year, just to approach people on the street and ask to photograph them. I have classmates who do this and the amount of success they have is astonishing, so I have to try it myself. This year I want to start making money with my camera. I'm going to schedule portrait sessions and hopefully save up enough money to pay for some lights and another really good lens. I'm jealous that you've been able to make so much money with your camera already and I've only really had the one paying job (assisting at a wedding) and I'm still too intimidated to approach people for more paying work. I'm sure this year will be good to you and you will make the most of it. Despite how you might feel right now, I still see progress in your work, and you should be proud of your work regardless!
I really want to shoot photos of strangers but aside of my evident shyness, people here don't respond very well to photos. Since the situation in the city is violent and dangerous, people often think you want to photograph them to kidnap them or something, but anyways, I'll make my best to give it a try, even if I get more negative responses than positive!
Aw, I wish I were making up for all the money I've spent in camera equipment. While I've been able to buy gear, I haven't gotten a lot of client work so far. I'm often intimidated by new clients but I try to push myself and just do it even if I feel they will reject my prices or decide to go with someone else at the end. I just use Facebook a lot and that has been really helpful for me because I don't have to be very personal at the beginning.
And thank you Petrija! I know your year will be excellent for you too! We shall do our best! :D
