I've really enjoyed reading your hiking journal. Thanks for writing!

What is your opinion of cotton/poly blends? I find they work well for me. I can hardly believe it, having grown up in the era of Toughskins jeans, but I really do like some of the clothes at Sears. Sears sells a lot of cotton/synthetic blend clothing that is affordable and great for hiking.

I haven't done a lot of blends, really. I just picked up a polyester/spandex top from REI, so I'll let you know how that works out.

I'm enjoying using each of these hikes as an experiment/learning experience. Today really illustrated to me how awful having a cotton shirt can be. I was really uncomfortable and the weather wasn't at all extreme.

I've always exercised in basic t-shirts and shorts/sweatpants. So all of this exploration into performance wear is a new thing for me.
