No one ever seems to get Boston right. And not just locations, but stuff like "the North Side" (it's the North End, thank you very much) and it's clear that many shows set here don't even bother to have a native on set, or they wouldn't consistently refer to ConCORD (it's "conquered") and HansCOMB (the local AFB--it's "HANScome"). Leverage gets these wrong all the time. Fringe just films in Brooklyn and mislabels genuine aerial shots with really cheesy 3-D graphics.
In the episode that we watched tonight, they called an area Anacosta instead of Anacostia.
It's a good thing that most of the episodes are set somewhere besides DC because we'd be laughing too hard to pay attention.
I cannot understand the lack of attention to details like this. I would think people would want to make even a quick call to a local (maybe a tourist office or something!) to see if they're getting some of the details correct.
In Toronto, there's actually a huge supply of people who have lived in other areas and ALL they do is consult, and tell actors and producers and such what might realistically happen in an area. They often also work as location scouts. I did it myself for gratis for an indie production that was set in Atlanta, but shooting in North York.
I also like Criminal Minds but have a feeling they aren't good about locations.
95% of the reason I still watch CSI NY is because they get NYC and seem to really love it. There are flubs sometimes, but overall, they seem to have some passion for the city. Most shows don't have that, especially when they are changing location all the time such as Criminal Minds.
