What would you do if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me
Lend me your ear and I'll sing you a song
And I'll try not to sing out of key
I get by with a little help from my friends...
I look at you all

Guess what, I'm going to write a paper about The Lord of the Rings/Tolkien in my Madison cultures class! I'm submitting the proposal on wednesday, so hopefully she'll agree it's a good idea. The library has so many books on Tolkien and criticisms, and even some of his work (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, and the Book of Lost Tales 1 and 2).
Just thought I'd tell you that since you are probably one of the few who'd appreciate it! :-)

Seriously, my T&L class is amazing.
How are you working Tolkien into Madison? I am intrigued!

My class is called Culture and Politics in Comparative Perspective (my major is Comparative Cultures and Politics), and the assignment is choose an artifact of culture from either Britain or South Africa (the two case studies we have in class) and relate it to the idea of nation and national culture. Tolkien is great for this on many levels, of course. It was funny because I had no idea what to do, then it just occurred to me out of nowhere last week. Like a light bulb, actually! It was crazy. I went to the library today and only checked out about half of the books that I wanted to since I couldn't carry all the ones that I was interested in... I'm really excited because I haven't been able to write a paper that I'm actually into, in quite a while.
Well, now I'm just rambling. :-)
