and now before I sleep, a bit of Zen :-)

"I usually congratulate people when they tell me, 'I don't know who I am anymore.' Then they look perplexed and ask, 'Are you saying it is a good thing to be confused?' I ask them to investigate. What does it mean to be confused? 'I don't know' is not confusion. Confusion is: 'I don't know, but I should know' or 'I don't know, but I need ( Read more... )

My spirituality is broader than the narrow definitions of "Christian" or "Buddhist" - defining myself solely as a Buddhist would be limiting myself ;-)

psh - cop-out. you and i know both the nature of language and the human mind and both are designed to act as though labels are compelling and encapsulating; as long as one keeps that in mind and is careful about traps, one can use labels as a means of directing thought and moving in a progressive direction without becoming victim to any kind of stagnation or limitation

i'm just saying, if you accept the fact that what you talk about and the direction you're moving in is best outlined in the principles of Buddhism, you might think about studying it some and see iffen it fits your temperament. the worst that can happen is you cement your understanding and faith

that, and i love needling you. hey, Jesus had his advocate, you get yours };)

I suppose I wonder what you mean by "studying" Buddhism...I studied it during a intro to world religions class, and on the final exam the teacher told me I was the only one who picked the essay on Buddhism to do.

But for better or for worse (I have faith that it is better), A Course In Miracles is my chosen spiritual path. It has been called the Vedanta of the West - I was going to ask if the Vedanta was a Buddhist thoughtform, but thinking again, I believe that it is Hindu - which tells you just how long ago that world religions class was :-P

I've read books by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist monk who is one of my favorite authors, and I agree with a great deal of what he says, but that doesn't make me exclusively (or even accurately) Buddhist.
