I just asked Aurélien about Greek-learning in French schools and he said they offered it in collège and his sister learned Greek at that time. And their father also learned it when he was in prépa. So there seems in general to be a lot more Greek floating around in public education than in the U.S.

Ah, if you put your mind to it you'll learn it soon enough. (Of course, then you'll have Latin to be cracking on with.)
