Ok, what im about to say is probably going to be the most refuckingdiculous thing in the world, but im completely serious about this shit. If I could have any job in the world right now, I would want to be a rap and r and b producer. I mean.........i love rock but i see the producing behind it to be to easy to predict and have no real room to ( Read more... )

That's fucking bullshit marcus, good rock n' roll production isn't predictable. Granted, rap production is cool, but why don't you just say producer and then invent your own genre instead of perpetuating hte use of labels. Just produce contemporary american music.

I mean, Rick Rubin is definitely one of my favorite producers and I know I would like to produce a "rap" album someday cause I'm really into production, but I think my main beef was saying that "rock n' roll" is too predictable, the problem is, most bands are predictable. But, I mean, look at Pet Sounds or the first Devo album, or a Brian Eno album, or Doolittle. These are all distinct, intricate and breathtaking productions. The problem is most bands are shit nowadays.

I think my main beef is that I hate genres, just produce "music"

ok i stand corrected..........yes it is the bands for the most part that are predictable, but what i was trying to express with rock music being predictable was the fact that companies choose one style(and one style of producing) and they stick to it(for examle the strokes and the "pop punk" explosion of the early 2000's that followed them aka soundalikes) and that is all that most of the united states will hear, nothing really avant garde or different and when you do hear the avant garde stuff it is usually toned down or more "poppy" than they originally were. there are exceptions like radiohead, they established themselves early with some more poppy stuff and have been exploring a more avant garde style with their last two albums as you know........yes it is genres that kill music, i will most def agree with that but yet it is impossible to not have them. I dont know, forrest im just getting tired of hearing same old same old, rock and the bands that companies have been releasing haveing done anyhting to really cause a change in ( ... )

If Rick Rubin can do it you can do it. He started Def Jam out of his dorm room at NYU, and he was just a punk-ass white boy.
