The problem with Canada

Well, it appears my "i'm probably going to Toronto" post was a tad premature. I still might, but there has been a setback. In short, the funding they are offering me is the same funding everyone else accepted to the M.Sc. program at Toronto gets. It's certainly a decent sum of money, but in reality it's not quite adequate for living in Toronto ( Read more... )

You can get a loan that isnt attached to tuition or anything, just a regular loan that you pay back later. People in my program get them for cars, kids, weddings, or just living well i guess, even though we're very well funded, its still a semi-poor life in graduate school. you can probably get a rate of about 6% on the loan, which is higher than the student loan rate, but lower than a credit card...a credit card is another option, but they can end up screwing you if you pay late. A third option is to sell your car if you have it, cause i bet you dont need one in Toronto, and use that money to live off of..some people who came here did that...
