Weightlifting question.

So if you do military press with two barbells, is it possible to damage your lower back if they are too heavy? Like, a good weight for your arms/shoulders, but it makes your back do weird stuff?

And could this be fixed with a weight belt?

If it's making your back do weird things, it's too heavy (no matter what your arms say). Go to a lower weight and strengthen your back before moving up.

That's probably what I will do. I've been avoiding changing the weights (which have been on there since the Chyna Challenge last year) because I duct taped them to the barbells (my barbells are kind of cheapo ones, and they don't hold heavier weights on there without help).

Since I'm not focusing on being able to do sets of 30-lb curls and 30-lb military presses, anymore (each arm; that was hard, even last year when I worked up to it), I should quit jarring my body so much and go back down to the 25-pounders for the weight training I need this year. Still - I'm sad about the downgrade.

I would add back exercises too like dead rows or dead lifts to strengthen your back.

A belt may help too. I've never used a belt though so I don't know.

Ah, I do back exercises, but I don't care about my back being buff so they are not my focus. I think I'll lower the weights.

I've always found my shoulders can lift more than my back and arms can swing up...but yeah everyone elses advice sounds fine...but did you mean dumbbells?
