Here we go. My first post for Livejournal Idol!

We have all seen the news lately. Massive protests sweeping the land while kids are being bullied and making choices to end their lives. We can all connect with these people in some way or another even if their particular problems are not ours. We all have felt helpless and we all have moments where our voice has been silenced. We have all been to the edge where it seems the only answer is prayer and hard choices. My words to you now are this is the time to do something.

Out of suffering, and silent hope, people have decided -today- is the time for action. The massive mob of protesters hold their signs as they shout in unison. They are tired of praying for a better world while nothing is being done. Even if we do not agree with their motives we can learn a huge lesson from these individuals. Sure they might blend in with the mob, but they will not be deterred. These protests are sure to end at some point, and when they do we come to another choice. Do we settle back into our lives and rest on our laurels, or do we take this moment to grow? I choose to grow. I will no longer just hope for a better world. I will do something.

Over the past month I have been moved emotionally by watching everything that is unfolding. While these protests reach out on a global level the actions of Zachary Quinto also has moved me on a personal level. Not content with the mounting news of another youth taking their own life he asked himself "What can I do to make this better?" Surely this is a thought he's had before, as we all have in one way or another, and he made a tough answer. He put his career at risk, and came out of the closet.

How brave of Zachary to do this. He has decided to join in this revolution of change, and done what he feels is right. This is just one thing that I have seen reported as of late. It brings me hope for the future. I no longer worry for the world I, we, will be leaving for my children.

“The thing that I’m most proud of in this whole situation is exactly how I did this. It was on my terms, in my own words, and I’m really grateful for that.” Quinto says. Quinto has found his voice, and has decided to act. Have you found your voice?
