Haha. I just read the Twilight series AND the series that True Blood is based on, all within the last three weeks. I am a vampire romance junkie! Maybe I should follow your good example and start in on that book too. Is it really good? I was thinking I would ready some Ann Rice since I never read those vampire books when they came out...but is that too many vampires?
hehe I certainly got vampired-out when I decided to order this book. It's fantasy but without overdoing the supernatural elements... focuses more on politics, individual development, and it's just got great writing, period. I would highly recommend it. I bought this book based solely on the thousands of positive feedback on amazon.com and glad I did.
Oooh, Poohie you're reading ASOIAF! :D I am usually not a fan (and that's an understatement) of fantasy fiction, but I really really loved this series. A friend of mine insisted and insisted until I gave in and gave A Game of Thrones a try: it took me a while to adjust to the pseudo-medieval setting, but then I was hooked. I like how it's all about the nit & grit of war and politics (but with a soap-operish flair) instead of the usual magical tropes of fantasy. And I really appreciate how there is no clear-cut, simplistic view of good and evil.
I only wish the author would get a move and finish the series soon...
me too! I only purchased it because I was yearning for a great book after Twilight.. so I browsed the top 10 list on different genres on amazon.com and was sold from the many many positive comments. I was hooked after the first chapter. The writing is so vivid and dialogue is never cheesy. I'm only half way done with the first book, but it's a good pace, I don't to plow through it like with Twilight.
Yay! George R.R. Martin is one of my favorite authors =)
If you like him, you might also like Melanie Rawn. One of her series is finished (6 books - 2 trilogies, really). The other one is SO GOOD (Mageborn Trilogy)...but the last book has been delayed forever.
