Okay, I'll stop torturing that poor metaphor now; but this story was a delightful breath of fresh air, it was. Mostly, I dig how lived in your Scully and Mulder seem, how much like real people with quirks and pores and hair that has to be washed* before the goo sets up, you know? They are tender, and kind, and sexy, and also facing down a lot of demons and honest to heck monsters and all that, but also, nearly every couple goes through the process of finding out how much they want to show to other people, and what sort of scrutiny a relationship can withstand in daylight. The sureness of Scully's feelings -- together, they will be happy for a lifetime -- oh, that is sweet and bittersweet and just lovely, all kinds of lovely.

It wasn't a perfect show by any stretch, but Scully and Mulder, man, they're still the bee's knees.
