Shorter vid of me stimming with my hands and my (broken) Tangle Jr Fuzzy. I wasn’t listening to music this time, just trying out my laptop camera for the first time.

Also, attempting a crosspost to DW/LJ for the first time! Wish me luck.

Good luck! I haven't tried it yet.

So, when you're stimming with your little critter there, what exactly are you doing? Do you wrap it around a finger, or around several, then shake it loose?

Most of my stims are around That Which Spins - heh, I majored in spinning things; I can make a spinny-toy from nothing but a strand of hair and a glob of spit - but I've also got a string-trick stim that involves wrapping a looped string around fingers in a certain pattern, then pulling it loose.

Yeah, pretty much. When they're not worn out like mine is, they stay joined together in a chain, and I can feel the vibration, the rattle of the Tangle, through my whole hand. (But I stim with just the movement of my hand like that, no toy required, too.) I need new ones. I opened the box on the last one I hadn't used yesterday. The other two lasted me a few years, with periods of intense use and periods of not using them at all, but I've hit burnout after 2016, which, all world events aside, was a very intense, stressful year for me with a lot of major life events, so I'm stimming a lot. Temperatures here are 40C+ and have been all week, which never helps my regulation anyway. I watched Amythyst's (askanautistic on youtube) video on burnout yesterday, and the advice is 'reduce stress, stim as much as you need to, and be prepared for it to take time', which is what I've been doing anyway. I did go to the dollar store and Target today and picked up a handful of things that'll see me through until I can afford to pay for better toys + ( ... )

Stimming is a good thing; it beats the heck out of smoking or snacking. I've got several sets of Chinese exercise balls, which are healthy as well as stimmy, but mostly I just spontaneously construct spin-toys out of whatever small items are at hand. I used to make whirligigs out of buttons and dental floss: those things are practically addictive.

So sorry to hear you've had such a stressful year; I hope this year will be better. Hot weather like that is so hard to deal with. Yay for new stim-toys, though!
