One thing I'm quickly finding out is that I really don't have a clue as to what I want to do with my life. I am technically a history major, or at least I declared it last semester. I am a history major because I enjoy learning it and it's easy for me, but when people ask what I'm going to do with that I have yet to really come up with a response. ( Read more... )

btw-

Internships are a great way of exploring career fields without getting stuck into them!

I interned for the National Park Service, working with cataloging artifacts and learned that I hated it, but knew that I could do it for the summer.
I also worked for the planning department of VDOT and learned that I loved it. :)

Intern now, or you'll be stuck where it's harder to get out!

Wow, thanks for all the advice. It is definitely encouraging to know that it isn't necessarily all about exactly what degree you end up getting.

oh man, that's one thing I worry about a lot, the pressure from my parents to decide on a what I want to do soon is really frustrating!

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

Yeah, sometimes parents can be the worst. But I'm sure they'll be proud of you no matter what you decide on. And you have time.

I was considering History as a major, but like you, I have no idea what i'd do with it. I suppose I could teach, but I'm afraid I'd get bored with teaching the same thing so many different times per day. English is probably second on my list because I'm good at it, and I enjoy literature etc.. So I guess I'm kinda like you in that way...

Maybe I'll just open my own Day Care or something. Owning my own buisiness doesn't sound so bad.

Yeah, it's a tough thing to make sense of sometimes, but it's fun to dream of all the possibilities!
