Nirvana was one of the bands that turned seattle into the grunge(sp?) rock mecca of the 90s. It's probably just the genre of music and the trend they started that's why there's hype. I would have to agree though they are a bit over rated, but I like the 'smells like teen spirit' song.

well, ya, they were one of the bands, along with pearl jam(the best by far) soundgarden(an easy runner up ahead of nirvana) stone temple pilots(comparable to nirvana, though they had more actual 'good' songs) and alice in chains. seriuosly, nirvana isnt even one of the top 2 bands to come out of seattle grunge, and in terms of making it mainstream, id say that those 3, (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, STP) have made just as much if not more of an impact, and their songs are in fact more ubiquitous on the radio than nirvana(cept for this nirvana nights bullshit) its just that, lacking the extreme drama of nirvana (aka the vh1 and mtv specials that have resulted) and the chainsmoker voice of kurt cobain(really now people, the best rock voice ever, get real, i can roll off 30 that have him beat by a long shot. unique, perhaps. but great? hex naw) they would be nowhere near as recognized. ill bet you guys could sing along to pj/sg/stp songs, since theyre played so much, and have no idea who it was. thats my biggest gripe with this nirvana nights ( ... )
