I found this crap trying to get info on the Thunderdome Tunnel of Terror, which was apparently a rave held in an underground tube 50m long with nothing but strobe lights and 130DB

I can only think of two occasions when a LARP is acceptable behaviour:

William Gibson Themed
MAD MAX and/or Tank Girl Themed.

1998 was completely mainstream, but everything else here is not. Also, this is a pretty closed-minded look at trends, considering there are so many other types of music out there that are "popular." Not everyone is into this loud brash thing.

Well I am. So fuck you, and fuck them.
I never asked for the whole world to embrace electronic music. I wouldn't want that anyway. But Maschinenfest goes off in Germany every year, and Thuderdome has been running since 1992... and what the fuck do we have here?

My point is that the attitude of Nu-Metal is the same as the attitude of Harsh EBM is the same as the attitude of Powernoise is the same as the attitude of Gabber: "We are the most hardcore assholes around and we are going to rock your fucking face off."
But the more extreme and/or experimental the music gets, the smaller the crowd. People are attracted to that stuff because it feigns a tough attitude, but then what happens? Ya know what's more hardcore than Slipknot? Just about fucking anything. So why do all these kids who want to listen to loud angry shit just pick-up whatever has the best distribution deal?
