Q: Is there a way to safely upgrade my unsupported 10.3.9 Panther to the obsolete 10.4 Tiger, without spending $100+ for the installation? Now that 10.5 is standard, Apple doesn't sell the 10.4 install DVD anymore. I don't want to pay $119 for a copy from a second hand source, especially when 10.5 (which I can't run) costs only $129.

if you find a friend with a boxed copy of tiger and make a copy. there's no copy protection on the tiger install disc and no cd key to enter. just make a backup and do a clean install

Why can't you run 10.5?

I just barely meet the 10.5 specs. My computer is from 2003 and slow enough already. I don't need 10.5 for now, but I can't keep using 10.3 if it isn't supported.
