after i have more then four drinks, there is nothing i want to do more then watch kurosowa.. im not sure why. ive found myself at parties, fantasizing about finding a ride home magically, and watching sanjuro. ive even, hoping that the host has a kurosowa stash, been caught rifling through a stranger's dvds. the big problem with this is ofcourse

hey ian -

if you are going to buy RAN make sure you get the new Masterworks release on DVD, the commentary tracks are worth it alone, but the new transfer is gorgeous.

also, just watched The Seven Samuarai for the first time in like 6 years, and realized its genius all over again. 4 hours of genius.

ah if only i was in the position to spend money on criterion editions. my dvd collection is built mostly on hand-me-downs from people who foolishly buy the originals and then replace them with widescreen, criterion, collectors editions and so on. however-- i will advise my dvd collecting friends of the masterworks edition; ill get the old version, and ill be able to watch the new with them; or better yet, borrow it down the road...
