Because what I don't get is, how would the creature in Harry's chest react to Ginny kissing another guy when he isn't even aware of Ginny?
This is exactly how I feel. I mean, I do love H/G, always have and always will, but canon!H/G just doesn't cut it for me because it was so unrealistic. I mean, it's like Harry is just dallying along; Ginny is his brother's little sister, she's cool, hangs with them a bit; on the whole, it's not that much. But then we get HBP and it's like WHAM! Harry suddenly loves Ginny and he's got crack in his chest to prove it.
The romantic in me believes in love at first sight but it's just not in it for H/G. R/Hr is lovely because it's developed (no matter what the angry Pumpkinites say). We've known forever that Ron has this crush on Hermione and that Hermione has feelings for Ron, but with Harry, no one saw it coming. Us H/G shippers hoped for it in our hearts, but there were no huge, blatant hints, no neon sign that pointed at Harry and went, 'HE'S GOING TO GET WITH GINNY
( ... )
Hey, maybe you should read the essay Cory referred me to here. It explained a whole lot to me, and at least I can understand the way things were in HBP now.
Thank you, but no, I've had this toothache for days and it hasn't let off yet. It keeps springing at me at the most inconvenient moments.
I myself enjoy pretty much any ship in fanfiction, but when it comes to canon, H/G just doesn't work. Actually, I've read quite the interesting theory on JKR's foreshadowing and the real story behind H/G's abrupt, unbelieveable relationship in HBP and beyond; it's a bit long, but you might be interested. It blew my beliefs out of the water, and I totally agree with it. Just can't wait to see if it's true! :)
Since the books are written from Harry's point of view, I think that Ginny's increased presence in book 5 definitely indicates that he's taking more notice of her at that time. Also, he does talk to her about his posession during the Christmas break in OotP (the "lucky you" conversation), and also about his desire to talk to Sirius (the "anything's possible if you've got enough nerve" conversation.
There's a really great essay by gowdie that you might want to check out here, which explores some of the foundations of Harry and Ginny's relationship and compares it to his friendship with Hermione. A very interesting read.
I just finished reading gowdie's essay, sorry if I took so long to get back to you. I've been busy. :)
I've always seen Harry and Ginny as a good match, the way Ron and Hermione are equally suited. Humor, yes, I've noted the exchanges between Harry and Ginny throughout the series, and the essay strengthened that belief. I'm happy now, the discomfort pretty much non-existent, but I'd like to read more on this topic. :)
If you you know of any other essays on this, would you please direct me to those as well? Thank you so much for commenting and helping me out, especially since you didn't know me--you made my day get even better. *smooches*

That love potion essay mentioned a few posts up is so full of holes, it's a miracle it hasn't sunk.

Though the Love Potion Theory made a bit sense to me (considering I was confused at the time), it wasn't what I was looking for.
I'm a fairly new H/G shipper, so I'm a bit lost. xD
