Granted, but look at the original BSG series. As funny and campy as it was, it was kind of... well... crap. The new BSG is compelling and very dramatic. Now on the other hand, take the original The Thing (well, the 1982 version, not the crappy 60s version). That movie left nothing to be desired. There was no cgi crap, no fancy expensive sets, no high tech special effects, just a riveting story with lots of suspense and horror, and all the actors involved were pretty damn good. Granted, Kurt Russel's got that Kurt Russel thing he does ("the name's Plissken."), but it works.
