Jack made his way home to wait for the call.  After he’d left Ianto to sleep, he’d gone back to see Owen who had Detective Sergeant Broadbury with him.

“I’m sorry Jack, but this has gone too far, I can’t put anymore of my staff or patients at risk.  I’ve told DS Broadbury what you intend to do, and he has an idea.”

“Oh yeah what?”  Jack wasn’t too pleased with Owen, he’d wanted to get Hart, he knew it was Hart and he wanted to prove it.  This complicated things.

“Mr Harkness, Doctor Harper tells me you know who’s behind this accident?”

“I think so but can’t prove it.  I was going to get evidence to prove it before I spoke to you.”

“I know how you feel.”

“NO!....No you don’t, someone you love hasn’t just had their life put in danger.”

“And you going after the person behind this is not going to help.”

“So come on then, what bright idea do you have?”

“Jack, please, let the DS explain.”

“I thought you were my friend Owen?”

“I am Jack, I just don’t want to see either you or Ianto hurt anymore.”

Jack realised Owen was talking sense.  He’d been blinkered because someone - no Hart - had wanted to hurt his Ianto.

“Alright, what do you have in mind?  And Owen....I’m sorry.”

“I know Jack.  Believe me I just want to help too.”

“Ok Mr Harkness, this is what I want you to do.”

DS Broadbury explained his idea and both Jack and Owen admitted that it was a better plan than they’d had.

“Are we clear, Mr Harkness?  As soon as you’ve been contacted you will let me know?”

“Yeah, but how are you going to get him?”

“We’ll be keeping an eye on our friend Mark’s bank account.”

“Ok and that’s gonna work?”

“We hope so.”

Jack stared at the sergeant.  He hoped he was right.  He left Owens office and made his way home.

He’d been in the house twenty minutes when the phone rang.  He remembered Mark’s accent and hoped that he could mimic it well enough to fool Barnes.  He spoke quietly as if what he’d just done had affected him.

“Yeah?”

“Mark is that you?”

“Who else would it be?”  He hoped Barnes didn’t recognise a faint American lilt to his voice.

“Mark you ok?”

“Yeah, why?”

“You sound odd.”

“What do you expect after what you had me doing today.”

“Yeah, sorry, look is everything taken care of?”

“Well....”

“Is it or not?”

“Well sort of”

“What the hell do you mean, sort of?  My client was adamant he should be completely rid of the obstacle.”

“He’s out of action, he’s not going to be able to walk again.”

“That was not the deal.  My client wanted him out of the way for good.”

“Well you can just tell your client that he can do the dirty work for himself next time.  I’ve had enough, I nearly got caught.  Now....I want my money and we’ll call it a day.  I’m not working for you again.  Got that?”

“But you didn’t finish the job, you’ll get half of the money for half of the job.”

“Fine, just don’t contact me again.”  Jack hung up.  At least he’d agreed to put some of the money in Mark’s account, that way the police would be able to trace him.

He sat down and put his head in his hands.  He wanted so much to hold Ianto, but he promised to give a full statement to the police first.  What a mess Jack, all because Hart’s jealous.

Jack spent two hours at the police station giving his statement, and by the time he got back to the hospital both Owen and Tosh were with Ianto trying to calm him down.  Jack walked into Ianto’s room and saw the tears in his eyes.  He immediately went and engulfed him in his arms and kissed him passionately.

“Oh Jack I....I was so scared.”

Jack placed his hand on Ianto’s cheek and gently caressed it with his thumb “Ssshh Yan, no-one is going to hurt you, I promise.  We won’t let that happen, will we Owen?”

Owen and Tosh were stood looking at the two men.  Tosh had been told about Ianto, but didn’t realise how good looking the two men were together.

“No, and I have a suggestion.”  He looked from Jack to Ianto.

“Go on, I’m listening.”  Jack was still a little annoyed with Owen, but he knew he’d been right to call the police.

Owen wrapped his arms around Tosh.  “It’s too dangerous for Ianto to remain in hospital, so....so why don’t you take him home, to yours Jack?”

Jack stared at Owen, then at Ianto.  “You serious?”

“Yeah, we were about to discuss it when you came in.  You can keep an eye on Ianto, you’ve proved that you can help him recover, but I must have the promise though that you’ll bring him back for the next three afternoons for his physiotherapy.  I will make sure it’s Jacqui that is in and no-one else.”

“But that only takes me to Friday for my physio, what about next week, you said I would need two weeks.”

“I’ve been watching you move and you seem to be coping ok.  And no doubt Jack will be able to help you with some exercises!”

Jack held tightly onto Ianto’s hand “Oh yeah” and he grinned.

“Right if Jack comes with me now, I’ll get the discharge papers and the out-patient forms sorted, then you can go home.”

“Owen?”

“Yes gorgeous?”

“If Jack doesn’t mind I’d like to take Ianto down to the radio.  I’m working tonight and he did say he wanted to be part of us.”

“I don’t mind Tosh, Owen would that be ok with you?”

“I don’t see why not.  Tell you what, I’ll come down too, maybe, just maybe you might even talk me into joining the radio.”

Jack smiled at Tosh and Owen.  Here were two extremely good friends who he didn’t know, at present, how to repay their kindness and generosity.

“Jack, I’ll go and sort those papers, give you a minute with Ianto, then we’ll all go see what this radio business is about.”  Tosh and Owen left.

“Oh Jack, I was so scared, I thought I’d lose you.”

“Hey, come on, you are never going to lose me.  I’m here for as long as you’ll have me.”

“What about Hart?”

“We’ll just have to be careful for the next few days, until all this is sorted.  I love you Yan and I promise we’ll be ok.”

“I love you too Jack, now go sort those papers then you can take me home.”

“That sounds so good.  I’ll see you down at the radio.  I’ll send Tosh back in to get you.”  He leant down and kissed him.

Tosh was back in no sooner had Jack left.  “Come on then, let’s go do some work.  Do you know something?”

“What?”

“I’ve never seen Jack so happy and relaxed as he is when he’s with you.  You are so good for him.  Thank you.”

“You don’t have to thank me.  I have Owen to thank for introducing me to Jack and Jack to thank for saving my sanity.  I’ve never been so happy since I met him.”

They both smiled as they made their way to the studio.

Turning the corner, Ianto noticed a box outside the studio door.  “You expecting a delivery?”

“Not that I know of.”

They hadn’t heard Owen and Jack come up behind them.

“What’s wrong guys?”

“You expecting a delivery Jack?”

“No Tosh, why?”

“There’s a box down there Cariad.”

Jack went over and picked it up.  He recognised the writing on the top.  It was addressed to Captain Harkness and it was Hart’s writing.
