Ianto entered his suite and loosened his tie.  He didn’t remember turning up the heat in his room, so why was he sweating?  He went to the fridge and took out a bottle of water.  Taking that and his notebook he went and sat on the bed.  He began reading the notes from the final rehearsal of the balcony scene but found he couldn’t concentrate on them.  All he could think about was Jack Harkness.

Jack arrived back to the Hub and found a message from Tosh stuck to his office door.  He took it down to his quarters along with a bottle of cold water.

Jack the rift activity disappeared, nothing I could do.  Owen and I are at mine if you need us, see you in the morning.  Tosh
He smiled at the image of Tosh and Owen together at last.  Then his thoughts drifted away from rift, to Ianto Jones.  He took a long drink of the cold water and closed his eyes.  Picturing those gorgeous blue eyes he reached down as he felt the start of an arousal.  He palmed his hand over it, calm down Jack you don’t want to rush things and frighten him off.

Ianto wasn’t concentrating any more on his notes, he was thinking about those eyes and that gorgeous smile of Jack’s.  He felt the beginning of an arousal what is happening to me?  Ianto couldn’t answer that question, all he knew was that he wanted to see Jack again.  But that was never going to happen.  Yes he’d told him to go backstage after the show, but he wasn’t going to hold his breath.  Captain Harkness would be too busy to be interested in him.

Ianto was the first to arrive at the theatre.  He hadn’t really slept, he couldn’t stop thinking, about Jack.  He had to get his head together, he couldn’t blow this now.  Damn the man, the arrogance of him, those blue/grey eyes.  Ianto shook his head, he had to concentrate on the performance.

Something moved stage left.  He went to see and as he got there he found he was shivering.  What was with this place?  Maybe Jack was right, there was someone here after all.

“Who’s there?  Look if you try anything I’ll call the police.”

Nothing.  No one answered.  Maybe he was imagining things because of his lack of sleep.

“Ianto!  Mr Jones are you there?”  Dawn’s voice echoed through the auditorium.

“Yeah Dawn, I’m on stage left, just checking the props.  Is something wrong?”

“No, there’s nothing wrong, I’ve got the printers on the phone, they’ve done the programmes and want to know if you want them today.”

“Yeah, could you go and pick them up for me? I’ve got too much to do here.”

“Ok, will do.”

Ianto remembered what Mark had said about Dawn yesterday.  He made a mental note to speak to her at lunchtime.  He liked her, but he couldn’t have a relationship with her.  He’d made a promise to himself, he would never date anyone he worked with, actor or otherwise.  It could become too complicated.  He thought again of Jack and immediately his body told him that there was a man who stirred something in him that was more than just friendship.

He was brought back to the present by the stage crew setting up for the beginning of the play.  Ianto had chosen to use Baz Lurman’s idea of updating it to the present time.  It would have cost double the current budget if he’d chosen to set it in period costume.  He took his notes and went to get a coffee.  He found that Dawn had already put the coffee on and he smelled the familiar aroma of vanilla as he entered the Green Room.  The smell took him back to the previous night.  No matter what he did he couldn’t get that damned Jack Harkness out of his head.  Come on Ianto concentrate.  You’ve got a lot of work to do today if you want this to be a success.  He grabbed his coffee and made his way to the stage.

“Ok people, we need to focus, we can’t go on with the tech rehearsal tomorrow we open in two days.  Right, Mark where’s the news desk for stage right?  You said it would be here today.”

“Sorry Mr Jones, Craig is just fixing the drawers in then we’ll be ready.”

“Look, we can’t start without that, you knew we had an early start.”

“I can’t apologise enough Mr Jones, but it’s ready now.”
Mark went to help Craig with the desk.  Instead of having a chorus speaking the prologue Ianto had gone with the idea of a newsreader.

“Ok people let’s start, I for one don’t want to be here all night.”

The newsreader sat behind his desk and began.  “Two households, both alike in dignity in fair Verona, where we lay our scene....”

Ianto had to concentrate hard on the action on the stage as his thoughts kept drifting back to Captain Jack Harkness.
