He wāhine, he taonga :: There's a fairly widespread belief that by tikanga Māori (customs), wāhine are oppressed and seen as inferior. It's certainly true that there are different traditional roles for tāne and wāhine, men and women, but the tikanga as I am given to understand them are a lot more complex than many pākehā realise.
