If you haven't read the nominations you can always go to
the Emmys site and read them.
The nominations were announced earlier today or yesterday depending on your time zone. There were some shocks and some welcome returns.
The clear first comment has to be for Glee with 19 nominations overall it leads the way for episodic television. The Pacific miniseries has 24 overall.
Biggest surprise the acting nominations past Jane Lynch for Glee. To be honest I wasn't expecting much past Lynch and an Outstanding Series nod for the show. Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison are the bigger surprise. Chris Colfer was a nice fun surprise though.
Conan! Just as I said last week The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien was nominated in the Outsanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series but The Tonight Show with Jay Leno was not. Also no David Letterman this year which is a surprise. First time since 1994 he's not been nominated.
Modern Family has learned that Ed O'Neil should submit as lead actor next year. He is the only adult member of the cast who did not land a nomination. So obviously my solution should be the plan for next year.
Absolutely no love for Community. Sad watching Joel McHale read out the nominations and his show didn't get anything. It's like going to see Santa and having to give him the presents instead. Maybe next year.
Friday Night Lights is in it's final year and has never been nominated before and lands a lead actor and actress nomination. I think the internet might of had a nervous moment when this happened. It had a small chance to collapse under a massive squee.
The Big Bang Theory seems to be destined to forever be ignored for Outstanding Comedy Series. Jim Parsons gets a second nomination for Sheldon but the show and the rest of the cast gets ignored. Although Modern Family has domination in the Supporting comedy acting categories.
Betty White is destined for an Emmy for her hosting job on Saturday Night Live. Tina is probably her only competition as much as I want Christine Baranski to win for her guest spot as Beverly Hofstadter in The Big Bang Theory.
I realized also that there is hardly a drama series in the main nominations that I watch. This won't affect my love of the awards it's just an interesting discovery. I have nothing in common with the Academy voters when it comes to picking drama nominations.
Other nominations that made me smile. Neil Patrick Harris for Supporting actor in How I Met Your Mother; Hugh Laurie for House; any nominations for Dexter.
Other things that disappointed me. No Castle love; John Noble snub, he's fantastic in Fringe; no Chick; my favorite member of the 30 Rock cast, Jack McBrayer not being nominated this year.
Final note for the nominations. Please stop nominating Jon Cryer, he won last year that's enough. We got rid of Charlie Sheen from the Lead Actor and Two and a Half men from the Comedy Series maybe next year we can be gone with Jon too.
