Fuck it

I hate feeling invisible. I think I'm really sensitive to it--what being brought up in a song-and-tap-dance kind of family where being heard and seen takes a lot of energy. And I'm really tired of it. Being on the receiving end of flake-dom feels rotten because I feel like "Hello?!" "Did I just say anything here? I hear my voice, but maybe I'm ( Read more... )

For me? A long time... sometimes even never. But I haven't forgotten. In fact... I never forget... I just continually feel guilty....

Yes, yes. But you're forthright about that, which makes it acceptable. You're like "Look, I want to be your friend, and if you want to be my friend you have to deal with the fact that I might never ever call you back. But I'll pick up if I'm there"

Actually, you're one of my friends who is the easiest to get in touch with.

But for what? For you to fart on me in the middle of the night? Take your time picking up . . .

Indeed, it gets more difficult to tactfully respond at your own pace these days. Fortunately, cell phones don't appear to be particularly reliable, so you can always make an excuse if you need to.

Text/IM: I will normally respond within minutes if I'm not asleep/at a movie/deaf. However, I am often asleep, so I guess 8 hours is a good average.
Cell phone: 1 week. I don't know why, but retrieving my voicemail feels like a big pain.
E-mail: If you don't hear back in a week, I probably lost the message in a pile of spam.
Social networking site: never.
Land-line: what? I think my grandpa still has one of those.

Also, well_lahdidah apologizes if she missed your call. She says it is my fault for not plugging her phone into the battery charger.

No worries. I didn't call her. Or maybe I did? I don't remember. And YOU ARE A HORRIBLE HUSBAND.
