I'm not even going to bother locking this post. Such flailing cannot be restricted to merely my flist. But I will probably be rambling so much that hardly anyone will read it because I can promise there will be a lot of text in this post.

MOCKINGJAY
The book that stole my heart.
And mind. And broke them both a little.

Took me a while for it all to sink in after reading the book. I will be posting this in my journal also, as I reflect in the book and what you said. :D ( ... )

Amazing review! Even reading some of what you've said about it makes me tear up. I only started series last week but I've not been hit this hard by a bookin a long time. I agree with you on so many points, particularly what you said regarding Gale and Katniss.

Reading through the series I was personally hoping that Gale and Katniss were going to end up together, so the disintegration of their friendship at the end was devastating to me. The lack of his presence in the final chapter and the epilogue really bothered me. I've thought about it a lot and I'm glad that Peeta and Katniss ended up together... But I can't get over Gale not being in Katniss's life anymore. I admit, I've actually been reading through fanfiction where Katniss and Peeta are together but Gale comes back to visit district 12 and the two are able to be friendly with one another again. I've been craving it since, as you so rightly put it, this book broke my heart and mind a little.

So glad you liked the review! <3

I read the entire series over the course of about 3 weeks. And I read each book in mere hours. I picked each one up and never put it down until I was finished. So it was fast but it hit me hard, I totally understand.

At one point, I won't lie, I thought it would be Gale and Katniss and I was ok with that. (I always loved Peeta though, always.) I really like Gale, a lot, and it sucked that he wasn't around anymore. BUT it made sense. I hated it but it made sense and I respect Suzanne for that decision.

If it's any comfort, I have some fanfic plans. Some of them should interest you, especially the one about Gale. ;) The one I'm currently writing will involve Katniss' point of view on how things were left with Gale, and I hope to write a oneshot (or possibly a few short chapters) from Gale's pov. :)

Like you mentioned in your review, she could have given in to pleasing her fans by writing a book where everything ends happily ever after with Katniss and her family and friends. Instead, she wrote an equally pleasing book but on her terms where she made clear that the series couldn't have a fairytale ending. I definitely respect her for that. And it was a fantastic book.

I'll definitely track your fanfiction and will catch up with the one you're currently writing in a few days when I'm less busy. I'll look forward to it. :)

I think that's why these books stand out so prominently to me. She's telling their story, Katniss' story, and that's part of what I love so much about it. I could just rave! Such an amazing read.

I hope I don't let you down! I'm doing what I can to be as true to the book(s) as possible! ;)

I came across this entry looking at Suzanne Collins stuff (have you ever read her other series, The Underland Chronicles? They're so good!), and I just wanted to tell you that you TOTALLY nailed almost everything I thought about Mockingjay!!!
I was completely Team Gale, and I thought he deserved a little bit more at the end of the book rather than just being written off as "too much fire" or whatever.
But even though it was dark, it was still very very good. I cried a couple of times.
Thanks for posting!!
