Grad student Snobbery

Jun 27, 2006 08:33

I am sick and tired of talking with other grad students who are so enamoured with themselves and their education. I have noticed that a vast majority of grad students just want to do graduate studies so they can tell the world just how great they think themselves to be ( Read more... )

what i find worse than the giant paper cock building students are the students who have some how managed to combine their very real and personal passion with paper cock construction--those are the dangerous folks.

that quoting Emmerson bit hit home . . . but, you know though, there are some of us who have so much literature stuck in our heads that it can't help but dribble out . . . it becomes part of our speech, our thought, to the point that life becomes literary. it happens to you with history, no? the feeling of all things historical? the popping of dates and facts inside your head like so much popcorn?

but then, i think of this mock line even more:

"Oh, I am so articulate and well read, I have a Master's Degree, look, I can quote Emmerson."and i wonder about those who involve their lives in sports and things like LARP, computer programming, D&D, . . . music. they can let roll of their tongues the most amazing bits of info . . . i wonder, is it really so different? intent, of course, accounts for some of the difference ( ... )

If you're going to college for any reason other than pursuing an interest or to get a decent paying job, you're gay.

It all comes down to finding the time to read books you want to read when you should be working, or having the money to go buy the books you want to read later in life.

If you go around call everything you don't like "gay" you sound like a poorly educated person.

"It only makes you annoy me, and assures me that your education is less about doing something you enjoy than building for yourself a giant paper cock to wave around at people."
