Currently emotionally compromised by Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

After the first two episodes being fairly PG, episode 3 featured weightier concepts. Before now Jonathan’s magic has been a lark and it would have been easy for that to continue with him on the battlefield, but instead the show has done a good job of portraying his experiences in the war as suitably upsetting.

Arabella was wonderful yet again, kind and clever, and I could cry just thinking about her. And Jonathan. And Lady Pole. And Stephen. Oh, gosh, Stephen. What the Gentleman showed him was so sad, the best scene of the series, it made me cry a lot.

It was very easy to be fond of Norrell in the first couple of episodes with his love of books, excitement over Strange and the sympathy his social anxiety and sense of duty inspired. But here you see his fearfulness drive him to really selfish, bordering on malicious, deeds.
The sense of dread increases. This show is going to destroy me.
