This Might Be the Conversation That Ends It All

Winona Kirk, no matter what others would imply was not a woman who was easily terrified, if she had an issue with you, she would tell you and have no qualms doing such a thing. When it came to her son, however, that lack of fear she was proud of just dissipated in the worst way. She sat with Leonard awaiting the arrival of Jim, trying not to worry ( Read more... )

"He did," he replied with a nod of his head. "I don't think he'll avoid us this time. But I do think he's suspicious," he himself just wanted this done and out of the way. Too much stress wasn't going to do Win, or their baby, any good.

Well, Bones sure was spot-on with that. Jim agreed to meet Leonard in his quarters after shift, Bones has alluded to this being something important concerning recent events, and Jim feared for the worst. Though, with Bones going out with his mother, honestly, the worst had already happened, right?

...right?

Jim made his way down the halls, pausing before Leonard's door, then held his breath, punching in his friend's code. He stepped through the door, and wasn't entirely surprised to see his mother or Bones sitting in there. His stomach flipped, but the corners of his lips turned up into a smile. A forced smile, but one nonetheless.

"Bones. Mom." Said Jim. He took a seat, because last time nearly had him collapse, and he wasn't too sure he wanted a repeat performance.

Under normal, sane circumstances where one friend wasn't dating the other friend's mother, sure, that's the worst thing that could happen. That wasn't the case this time though.

Winona noticed the forced smile and sighed ever so slightly before looking at Leonard for some reassurance before she opened her mouth.

"Jim. Before I say anything about what you're here for, I have to say I'm sorry first. And I say this now because you're not gonna accept it at the end of this, especially from the two of us."

"Jim," he nodded towards his friend, before he nodded at Winona. He was sat beside her, his knee resting against hers. He wanted to hold her hand, but he didn't want to make Jim uncomfortable from the get go.

So, he bit his tongue as she spoke, knowing this was her thing to say, not his. She had more tact than he would ever have. But he did nod along when she said sorry, because he was. Sorry, and frightened of fully losing his best friend.
