Main Journal: domofairy
Contact: oh my piplup@aim.com ; amplitude@plurk
Characters in Powers: Marin Yamasaki, Riku

♛ CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Toushirou Hitsugaya
Series: BLEACH
Ability: Hitsugaya's weapon of choice is a zanpakuto. He can perform a small variety of ice moves and is overall a long-range fighter.
  • Hitsugaya can create flows of ice that are shaped like dragons.  These "ice dragons" freeze anything they touch, and can also cause physical damage to the opponent.  However, they have limited range and cannot travel very far.
  • Tensō Jūrin, another one of Hitsugaya's techniques, can control the weather in the surrounding atmosphere.  However, it is a very risky move to use, for it affects everyone in the vicinity.
  • Hitsugaya can also manipulate his zanpakuto; it can gain a long metal chain at will.  The chain can stretch to great lengths, and can be used to attack or entangle the opponent.
  • Hitsugaya is also highly skilled in basic swordsmanship, being a child prodigy.
Other than the weaknesses in his abilities, Hitsugaya also faces a physical weakness; although he's agile, he lacks endurance, and can be brought down quicker than others due to his small frame.

History: Hitsugaya was born to an impoverished family on the 20th of December in Bevelle, Deningrad.  It would have been nice for him to say that he lead an ordinary life, but the cons of being poor outweighed the pros; the only time of the year he ever looked forward to was during the last two weeks of December when he could celebrate both his birthday and Christmas.  The only two times of the year where he could truly and utterly be at peace-- that was, until his parents had to explain to him that they were going to send him to a 'better place' where he could grab more opportunities than they could ever give him.

On his seventh birthday, Hitsugaya was sent to an orphanage.  It was an unexpected birthday surprise, to say the least.  He didn't understand everything at the time, but he was certainly at his most miserable then; no financial situation could ever be as taxing as the feeling he had knowing that he wasn't going to see his parents again.  His time at the orphanage was not well-spent; he isolated himself from the other children, refusing to have any major interactions with any of them.  It was a coping mechanism for him, he wanted to be alone.  He wasn't ready to accept any new 'family' members into his life.  The prospect of befriending them was out of the question as well; he'd never been faced with many social situations prior to being abandoned, and because the orphanage was so bent on everyone becoming a pseudo-family, he didn't know how to distinguish family from friend.  Due to his behavior, many of the kids feared him and nobody dared to speak to him.

That was, until Momo Hinamori came around.  Hinamori was the first and the only person at the orphanage who took the time to reach out to him, eventually captivating him with patience, kindness, and persistence.  It took him quite a while to open up to her, but the wait was worth it.  The two of them evolved into best friends-- perhaps even more than that, not in a romantic sense, but in the 'we share a bed together and she always wets the bed in her sleep, that's gross' sense.  Hinamori would provoke him with a pet name, "Whitey," and he'd retaliate with "Bed-wetter Momo."

Their friendship flourished, continuing throughout the days and weeks and months-- jump to a year later, and their everyday routine took a twist.  An elderly later showed up at the orphanage and took particular interest in Hinamori, charmed by her sweet nature.  The woman only wanted to adopt a girl, unsure if she could understand and fully provide for a boy.  As soon as one of the staff members began to drag Hinamori out into the lobby area, Hinamori had instantly latched onto Hitsugaya's arm and refused to go anywhere without him.  The woman made notice of Hinamori's strong attachment to the young boy, causing her to have a change of heart, taking both of them under her wing.

While the woman, whom Hitsugaya and Hinamori referred to as "granny", wasn't exactly rich, she proved to be a very nurturing caretaker.  Granny cared immensely for the two of them, and her kindness rubbed off on even the cold-hearted Hitsugaya.  Months spent with Hinamori and Granny allowed him to finally open himself up to them and take them in as his new family, the people who looked after him when nobody else could.

To repay Granny for the sacrifices she'd made for them, Hitsugaya and Hinamori signed up for a dojo, learning swordsmanship to protect her and themselves from any upcoming dangers.  They trained for approximately three years before their powers came to the surface.  Unfortunately for Hitsugaya, he had to learn of his the hard way; while sparring with another student, an extended beam of ice shot out from his sword and froze his opponent from the waist up.  The student was hospitalized in near-critical condition; Hitsugaya's teacher instantly removed him (along with Hinamori, who'd also discovered her powers earlier) from the program, not out of spite but rather because he felt that he could no longer give them the help they needed.  Before the duo left the dojo, the instructor gave them both recommendation letters for a prestigious school named Estrasia Academy.

Through careful consideration, Hinamori decided to head off to Estrasia; Hitsugaya protested, arguing that they needed to stay behind and protect Granny, but Granny encouraged Hinamori to follow the path she desired.  Hitsugaya was left alone with Granny for another two years, focusing on his studies since he could no longer train.  As a result, he became known as a "prodigy," bearing the intelligence of an intellectual young adult while he was 12 years old.

However, his powers began to manifest more and more; a year later, he began to have haunting dreams about plains and fields of ice, and his energy would give off a cold radiation, nearly freezing Granny to death.  After the incident, once she had recovered, he made a firm resolve to go to Estrasia, not wanting to hurt her any further and wanting to learn how to control his powers.

Due to Hitsugaya's level of proficiency, both academically and physically, he was immediately put into third-year classes.  He is now a fifth-year after two years of perseverance.

Personality:  With every group of friends comes a clique, and within every clique there's a miniature, cantankerous white-haired 'underage' boy with the mind of an old geezer.

Okay, well, not quite.  See, that's the thing about Hitsugaya: you'll rarely, if ever, find someone like him.  He's only fifteen years old and yet he has temper and academic maturity of someone far beyond his years.  To top that abnormality, appearance-wise he looks like a grade schooler.  He's got a mind of a seventy-year-old trapped inside of a body aged fifteen years old with the physical appearance of a ten-year-old, much to Hitsugaya's dismay.  He really doesn't care for his young features because nobody in high school would ever take a kid in middle school seriously.

And yet, the one thing Hitsugaya is respected (and used) for would be his remarkable academic talents.  Other than being a very skilled combatant, he's very intellectual and is ranked somewhere at the top of his class.  His homework, his tests, his grades are all very solid and have never dropped since his acceptance to Estrasia.  As a consequence, people use his reputation as being a child prodigy to their advantage, and often pester him about letting them copy his homework, or getting tutoring from him.  He's a walking encyclopedia and he'd probably be able to help almost everyone on campus; the thing is, he usually doesn't and prefers that people put in the time and effort into understanding their work.  He did work very diligently by himself to get to the top after all.

That's probably why Hitsugaya's usually so isolated from the rest of the student body.  He's highly independent and is horrible with social interactions, usually spending his free time working instead of getting out and making friends.  He's far from being a misanthropist; it's just that he prefers to be by himself.  Most often he comes across as unapproachable.  He doesn't really seem to mind it, but admittedly, it does get a little lonely sometimes at Estrasia.  No Hinamori or Hinamori-like figure to be there with him through everything.  Kid's been fighting his own battles for so long that sometimes it gets a little exhausting, having to keep everything in.  Just because he's independent doesn't mean that he doesn't appreciate someone else's company, granted that you aren't annoying.

Hitsugaya's fully capable of making friends, just as anyone else is.  And when you get there, he's a keeper.  Hitsugaya knows his role in relationships; he isn't here to hold your hand or tell you that everything's going to be fine when clearly things won't be, but he's the friend who will look for solutions, who will be right there with you when you need a slap in the face or someone to back you up.  His way of alleviating a person of his or her problems is to get the person to act on their problems.  Loyalty and trust are the two main components he relies on in a good friendship and as long as you've earned those from him, it'll be hard to push him away.

On the other hand, if you do prove to be an idiot, Hitsugaya will show you no mercy.  He will only spare you of anything if he needs to for the sake of others.  Those who fall under the category of "idiot" would be bullies, power-hungries, basically anyone who's too selfish for their own good.  Slackers are high on the list but he does tend to make some exceptions, depending on the other aspects of the person's character.

♜ SAMPLES
Third Person Sample:  It wasn't that he hated the Powers Conditioning class, he just hated the idiots that came along with it.  There was always that one kid in his class who would tell all of his popular A-list buddies that Hitsugaya was nothing but a showoff, and that he had been "abusing" his prodigy status by supposedly thinking that it was okay for him to act like a hotshot.  Hitsugaya normally kept to himself, deciding that arguing against the kid's baseless conjecture wasn't worth an ounce of his time.

So naturally when it was announced that Hitsugaya had been one of the few who'd received an A on the midterm, the same group of people felt the need to make more snide remarks.  One of them said more loudly than he should have, "I bet that grade's going to get to his head again.  Great.  Now he's going to turn into an even bigger asshole--"

Now for some reason, that morning, Hitsugaya wasn't going to let that one slide.  He spilled a bowl of instant noodles onto his papers, had to run down to the library to reprint them again after realizing that his printer had run out of ink, and almost skidded into a wall after nearly slipping on the rain-tinted sidewalk while rushing to his first class.  And for some reason, he wasn't ready to ignore anything that this class was going to throw at him.  "Hours of practice, concentration, and focus." he uttered darkly.  "Did you really think that I got an A for nothing?"

The group of students fell silent, mouths gaping open, eyes widened in shock.  Good, he thought.  "Who ever said that I thought I was the best in the class?  The only reason why I'm ahead of you is because you don't appear to take this class seriously.  What else did you expect?"

The school bell rang, as if it couldn't have been timed any more perfectly.  With that, Hitsugaya swung his gym towel over his shoulder and his bag over the other and took off, his expression nonchalant.  Idiots.  Hopefully that would get them to stop talking.

First Person Sample: There appears to be an influx of people asking me for homework answers. First of all, I refuse to be liable for your grades. My answers could very well be just as incorrect as yours. [ Well, he knows that they're probably correct, but just for the sake of punching some reality back into them, he's going to say it. ] Second, you all have brains. Use them. Feeding off of other people's answers won't get you anywhere. And lastly, I have been out from classes for the past day or so. I'm picking up my assignments tomorrow when I return. Regardless, you all need to get the picture. I'm never going to lend any of you any of my assignments, so why don't you all stop wasting your time, and sit down and get to work.
