Character Name: Claire Bennet
Fandom: Heroes
Age: 15
Canon Point: Post Season 1

Personality: There are many ways to describe Claire; naive, stubborn, remarkable, intelligent, kind and courageous. Many of the more defining factors regarding Claire are strengths about her, although many of these strengths are also her biggest weaknesses depending on the situation.

Claire is an intelligent girl, shown when she had transferred from Odessa to a school in Costa Verde. Although Claire was intelligent she was under orders to not stand out and instead of answering questions in class she simply wrote the answer down, which was also a test to herself to see if she was right. Claire's intelligence is not just academic but transfers to her regenerative abilities when put to the test but also in social situations. There have been many situations in which a disaster was about to happen or a situation seemed dire and this is when Claire has shown not only bravery, and some recklessness, but also intelligence. By using her ability Claire has been able to save people from disasters (such as from a train fire) or stop a disaster (when Ted was about to blow up their house by being unable to control his ability). Another area which highlights her intellect is during situations when things are being hidden from Claire, which is most of her life. Claire has gotten good at being able to detect when people are lying to her due to her high experience with it, which leaders to her being able to work out plans when she is only told some information (either by guessing, deducting or picking up a phone to listen to the full conversation).

Although due to being a cheerleader Claire may seem mean, she quickly manages to diffuse and remove this stereotype, first by making herself the most unpopular person in school and hated by the rest of the cheerleaders (but loved by everyone whom is hated by a cheerleader) but second by managing to either befriend or calm others. As well as being friendly, Claire is also a very caring individual and particularly to those whom are friends and family. When those whom Claire cares about are hurt or unable to be contacted it causes her to worry, most notably regarding the health of Peter and then the health of her (adoptive) mom. When Claire realises that her father is part of a plot to imprison anyone with an ability, Claire risks herself and her ‘free pass’ to save everyone and to stop the plan. Although she is unable to do so and is later taken home, when someone known as Rebel contacts her with information to prevent others from being taken Claire goes to them, first managing to convince them that she’s being truthful by revealing her own ability and later hiding them in her room before helping them to escape.

Claire is also incredibly stubborn, something which links into and isn’t helped by (nor does it help) her naivety. After discovering her ability and testing it, Claire wanted to use it to help others despite what her father said. Although she listened to him, for the most part, if she learned of something dangerous - for example Peter being the bomb - or something that she felt too strongly about to let it lie - for example Pinehearst, the Company and the plot to lock up everyone with an ability - Claire defied her parents, and did anything that she could to either stop what was happening or to save anyone that she could. Much of Claire’s stubbornness comes from the fact that her father has lied to her for many years and continues to do so, believing that he is hurting their family rather than protecting them as he says. Claire’s trust in her father has been destroyed and although she tries to believe him and love him, she still discovers things about him that destroy that trust again and intensify her anger towards him. This anger causes Claire to ‘act out’, at first skipping school in order to learn how to fight with Meredith and then when she ‘hunts down’ escaped Level Five prisoners by herself in order to take them back to the Company. Although Claire had some success she was quick to learn that it was a more difficult job than she’d originally thought. Although Claire then promised not to go after any of the other prisoners it didn’t stop her from trying to help others - especially after her father was shot and killed (supposedly), when Claire made it her mission to bring down the Company and expose what they were doing by the use of her father’s files. Even after her father returned after being healed by her blood Claire was still determined in her idea to expose the Company and the knowledge of abilities so that this couldn’t happen.

As Claire knows little about her abilities it leaves her feeling insecure and causes insensitivity in her when dealing with others and having to be reminded that not everyone heals as quickly as she does. Although Claire’s father is trying to keep her from the Company as they’ll use her as a guinea pig to test her to the limits, Claire doesn’t entirely think that that is a bad idea - she’s learned that her blood can heal others and after learning about lizards being able to regrow their limbs discovers that she can too, wondering if she could be used in stem cell research to help others. Although Claire ultimately wants to help others, many of her actions actually hinder others due to her behaviour - she doesn’t fully understand a situation and often behaves a little immaturely about it due to her stubborn wills.

Abilities/Weaknesses: Claire possesses the ability of spontaneous regeneration, allowing her to heal from any injury. It also prevents her from becoming ill and her blood has healing properties.

Many of Claire's strengths are also her weaknesses, stemming from naive beliefs regarding herself and others.

+ intelligent ( in terms of academia and in thinking on her feet - Claire is able to find solutions to help others when a situation seems grim, but most of that is due to putting herself in danger as she knows that she is able to heal )
+ brave/courageous ( as Claire knows that she is able to heal from any injury this increases her bravery as she will put herself in harms way to save someone from danger, preventing them from becoming hurt or dying had she not done so e.g. the train wreck & stopping Ted )
+ friendly/caring/kind ( Claire is a very kind and caring individual despite being a cheerleader and even more so when it regards her friends and family, particularly when they are in danger )
+ stubborn ( Claire's stubbornness can be an asset but only when used in situations. It has helped her before when convincing others to seeing her view point or being adamant in certain situations where she has believed that she can help )
+ athletic ( as a cheerleader and gymnast Claire has a good muscle memory and athletic talent. She is also shown to be a decent runner and can play badminton )

- stubborn ( Claire's stubbornness is one of her main weaknesses despite it being a strength as often when she is trying to prove a point or refuses to back down in an argument it has her appear childish and reckless rather than how she would prefer to be seen - a young woman who is capable and willing to help )
- insensitive ( Claire's insecurities regarding herself and her ability often stops her from being able to communicate with others ( particularly those without an ability ) as she finds it hard to connect with them and find common ground, especially when she is thinking about her ability. As such she can appear rude and insensitive and often speaks before thinking, putting her foot in her mouth very easily )
- reckless ( although Claire tries to be brave and puts herself in danger to save others from harm it is more reckless than she'd like to believe and often ends up putting her family in danger as it alerts the Company to her presence )
- naive ( Claire's stubborn beliefs and beliefs of how she thinks the world could be if they simply knew about abilities makes her look naive. Although her ideas often seem good she fails to see the bigger picture and looks at the world from her view without trying to think from other perspectives )

First Person Sample: [ The examination had been daunting, as had everything she'd been told. They'd tried to reassure her that she hadn't been kidnapped but her parents weren't here, neither was Lyle. If she wasn't kidnapped then where was she?

Being told that it was for her own safety was... it didn't feel right. None of this felt right. She left the building complex that she'd found herself in, ignoring the queue that seemed to be amassing in the lobby and even those that tried to stop her. She had to get outside, she had to see where she was. Claire just hoped that this would give her some answers.

She sighed when she got outside, looking around. The place was pretty small like she'd been told. The buildings were nondescript and there weren't any signs around... it didn't even look like a town... it looked exactly like they'd said ]

What is this? [ She looked around, confused. What they'd said... she'd been in danger and this was for her safety? ] How could they know?

[ Did they really know what had happened to her? To everyone in New York? She'd thought she was safe... mostly. She knew that the Company was still out there but they weren't as dangerous as Sylar or the bomb had been... even Ted was worse

Claire turned, looking back at the building that she'd exited from. Everyone else in there looked and seemed as confused as she was. It didn't seem like they had any more answers than she did... either the Company had stepped up their operation or they were telling the truth. Either way... it didn't sound good ]

Another first person example

Third Person Sample: It had been a long few weeks. She could barely believe that it was all over. She was exhausted, though she knew that there'd be more to go. They might have stopped the bomb and Sylar might have been dead but this was far from over... they'd lost their hours, she'd lost friends and now they were moving and everything was about to change.

She'd never been to California before. She wasn't sure whether to look forward to it or hate the idea. Not knowing anyone was obvious, though the situation wasn't that different to Texas - it wasn't as if she had any friends left after the Homecoming situation. Changing her name wasn't even that big of a deal - she knew why they had to, to protect her from the Company but...

What if it wouldn't work? Her dad had been spending her whole life trying to protect her and it hadn't worked. The Company was everywhere, judging by how many times her dad had travelled... or what if something happened and they couldn't stay hidden? Their lives weren't exactly the easiest. Fitting in... that's all she'd ever tried to do and lately it seemed like it wasn't working no matter how hard she tried.

Claire guessed that they'd all find out when they got there... and hopefully that it would be okay. She just hoped that they wouldn't have to keep moving around - starting a new school once would be hard enough.
