You should be mad that the kids who go to private schools will have more advantages and opportunities than you. I know it makes me mad ( Read more... )

i'm pretty sure people can stop debating about this now, things are how they are. you laid out your opinion and what you think people should do. its up to them to do it now. unless you wanna keep posting for all eternity about the georgetown school system. Unfortuently some people rely on it for their education and can't afford a private school (my family). i say just let it be now.

I agree. I already had a brother in college during my high school career and my riding career wasn't the cheapest. So I worked hard in school to be able to ride at a professional show barn in georgetown at 40/hour for a lesson.

My point all along here has been that there should be no disparity between private and public school. You and your parents have fooled yourselves if you think that only those willing to pay extra should get access to a great education. And please, don't try to tell me GHS is anything but mediocre - I only think the kids there are exceptional. This town can afford, through better planning, some extra money and parent volunteering to provide the Georgetown school students with all the advantages of most private schools.

Aren't any you willing to stand up and leave GHS better than you found it?

well private schools typically have teachers that are more motivated and eagar to teach the students. There is a dispartiy in the education between private and public schools... otherwise there wouldn't be any private schools....

I have a younger sister yes. She wants to become something so she does the things she need to do. The other kids that don't want to become anything don't do anything. Its survival of the fittest, and in this case survival of the smartest and wisest.

At GHS, your sister will have to work harder than the kids at Masconomet, North Andover, and Triton to get into the same colleges as they will.

Well those school districts also have a lot more student. Therefore their parents are paying in taxed. Meaning the more students a school has the more taxes it receives from the parents. That is why Triton, Masco, and North Andover have better teachers and all that jazz.

I still think for the amount of students that we have at Georgetown, we have some pretty good teachers, i.e. Dr. Venuti, Mr. Hastings, Miss. Priv etc.

A students education is only as good as the work they put into it. Yeah students at other schools might have a lot more teachers of a higher caliber but that doens't mean that they don't slack. If you want a good education you work for it. It doens't matter where you go to school.

Yeah the money isnt always there for private schools. I can relate to where Astrid is coming from. I have 3 younger sisters and we all ride horses. Me and the sister right under me show our horses on a World/National level....we both have horses in training as well as at home. We have to pay a min. of $700 per horse in training a month....that dosnt include shows....but we wont go there on the prces of those. For us the riding will get us further in life then a education from a private school....we find our enjoyment in other things than education.

Compared to a lot of schools Georgetown has a good public school system. Why not look at the glass as half full instead of empty?

Because I don't think that's fair to the kids in the elementary school. They should not have to settle for a school that doesn't fuel their imagination nor provide more than a handful of enjoyable experiences over four years.

Is this some kind of personal vendeta ?

No, its not a vendetta - which would be a vengeful act. It has, however, become a personal responsibility to me.

Would you like to be part of a group of students and parents who try to provide support and ideas for the Georgetown schools? Email me at georgetownma@usa.com.

I have already spoken with several other parents, and we would like to give the students of Georgetown a voice in the process of running your school. We are interested in your advice, and are willing to help on projects in any way can. If enough students are interested, we will put together a meeting to discuss what you would like to accomplish, what the parents would like to see implemented, and how we can work together.
