When she missed her Daddy so much there would be dreams of Daddy combing her hair and telling her bed time stories. But these dreams died a long, long time ago…because even dreams do evolve.
Endless waiting…in an empty street.
They were always cold and restless nights and she would wake up into tears.
But today she had nothing to dream of. No waiting, no empty streets. Nothing. But why did it feel better that way?
__
Sunlight began to hurt her close eyes and she slowly lifted her dizzy head only to be stopped halfway by an arm around her torso. She landed back on his lap. She searched her mind for some decent reasons why she ended up on his apartment floor, head lying on his lap and him...He was seating up against the cold walls, head tilted to his right, his jacket covering her cold feet.
She looked back at him, who was sleeping soundlessly. How did he stand the cold night in this position? Because it was never a comfortable one.
Slowly and gently taking off his arm off her she was now able to face him.
To finally stare at his face without giving him the satisfaction of his ego…she mentally laughed at this thought. His boyish features, his defenseless state, the warmth he gave her when he hugged her last night… Her hand unconsciously lifted itself to his face…
A caress would not hurt, would it?

His back and neck hurt but he wasn’t supposed to change that position or she will wake up. He just tightened the lose grip on her but there was nothing to hold onto anymore.
He sat up straight and blinked at her because her hand was just about to…
“Ouch!” He earned one hard knock on the head and she left for the kitchen snickering but blushing.
“Not fair Namikawa.” Even his pout-y look made her want to pinch him in the cheek.
They had breakfast together. Courtesy of whatever she found in his fridge today, because he started doing grocery for himself after that.
And after that “Here. Not much. I was planning to give it to you yesterday but…” He pushed a small box across the table. “I don’t know how you are with hand-mades but…Belated happy birthday, I guess”
She blinked. With the limited number of people who would know such important dates, like family and very close family friends, how in the world did he know it was her birthday yesterday?
Without any good words in mind at the moment, she simply unwrapped the tiny present in front of her and picked up the little silver band with some tiny musical notes hanging around it.
“A bracelet! Wow, what can I say? Thank you!” Surprise and happiness evident in her eyes.
When was the last time she received something she could really call a gift? The clothes and shoes her Daddy send from Paris - the ones he asks his secretary to shop for him? All those did not count until this. And hand-made…She could almost imagine throwing herself at him in exasperation but she remembered something again.
“This is really nice…” She could have said and sweet “…of you Yaotome. But I don’t think your girlfriend will like this. I know it’s not like-“
He was stifling his laughter and she stopped talking.
“You really do think she’s my girlfriend?” He took the bracelet from her while still holding his laughter.
Her face showed that she was slightly annoyed but she was still trying to keep her cool in this situation. “You call her Hot Chick.” She hated how she just sounded jealous.
He reached for her right hand and started putting the silver band around it. “Hot Chick, “She was taken aback by his gentle touch on her skin. “You see, she’s the only family I have left. “And she now knew that his father died when he was 10 and that he never got to see his mother who died just after giving birth to him and that he has an older sister who checks up on him frequently.
Guilt washed over her. “I’m sorry, I didn’t-“
“Nah, it’s okay. I get a lot of that. She just wants me to call her that…to hide her age maybe.”
Now she felt embarrassed but a bit relieved that he didn’t have a girlfriend.
“Hey, how did you know it was my birthday?”
He raised an eyebrow. “You really don’t remember a thing huh?” He saw that she was not getting anything.

That was like so middle school…but I hated myself for being the brat that I was then.
It was my birthday and I was, like any other birthdays, hoping that Daddy could just forget about work and just be at home with me. But like any other birthdays, he would just send his secretary to buy me a last-minute-thought present.
I did not want to go home yet…The driver was waiting for me outside when my classmates were getting noisier like some commotion happened. Out of boredom I joined in only to find myself face to face with a boy my age, holding a cake with candles on it. The other kids were teasing him to give it to me already but he was holding it away from me instead. I thought he was just shy but the look on his face said otherwise.
“Why would I give it to her?”
“Because it’s her birthday!”
He looked at me again, thinking that maybe we were all bluffing about it. But when I realized that it was not intended for me, tears began to well up around my eyes.
He saw this and hesitated before actually giving it to me.
“It’s my sister’s birthday today but you can have this. Just…don’t cry in front of me. I don’t like it.”
Of course, how can he ever forget my birthday if I celebrate it with his dear sister?
But that means, we went to the same school in middle school? Like we were supposed to be acquaintances since then? Wow, why don’t I remember that he even existed?
I felt bad again. Why did it take so long for me to get to know him? If I knew him back then, I wouldn’t have been so…depressed and bored, would I?

A/N: Longer than the previous, so please don't bite me. Hehe.
