Poll

So, umm, yea.  I keep catching random episodes of this show on TNT when I'm between Olympic events (OMG OLYMPICS WHY CAN YOU NOT LAST FOREVERRRRRRR????)  I need a new show, don't want a freshmen newbie because the ones I like always get cancelled.

I vaguely remember a couple of people on my flist fangirling this show over the years so figure someone ( Read more... )

Hee! Seasons 1 and 2 are pretty decent. Honestly the thing that eventually GRATES WITH LEMON is that Jane and his interactions with the team members just... don't evolve. And they won't ever be allowed to. Plus, Jane is kind of a giant toolbox (even if he's played by Simon Baker.)

But it's definitely a fun watch until you want to beat him to death with a shovel!

Hmm, he awfully adorable to want to beat with a shovel. But even after only half a dozen episodes I can easily see how he would/will become that way. Damn it.

Meh, I don't know if I can really become 100% invested in a show that doesn't really change/evolve the characters through the seasons. Think I'll give at least the first couple seasons a try (that seems to be the consensus) and see if I want to stick with it after that. Oh, TV.

Well, I still watch Mentalist, but it has kind of lost its spark. I do ship Jane/Lisbon, and the show gives you little morsels here and there but it definitely isn't much. I'd agree season 1 & 2 are pretty good, and parts of the later seasons have their moments. If you want Jane/Lisbon start with the Pilot. It has a wonderful little moment that starts them off. Red Badge is a good Lisbon episode, with a little Jane/Lisbon in there, sort of, and it's in season 2 (I think). I'm totally blanking on episode titles and seasons atm, but I'll throw together a list of my favs and send you a PM later (when my brain has recovered from work). If you just want to get a general feel of the show and then dive into fic (which I have been known to cheat and do), I can definitely point you in the right direction :D Although, there isn't nearly enough good Jane/Lisbon fic (but I am partial to epics, and there are probably a decent amount of one shots).

Anyways, PM later with more coherent thoughts. Heh.

I actually think I may just live in fiction for now! :D Its what I did with Tony/Ziva in NCIS and I really, really enjoyed it. I already love both Lisbon and Jane from the general backgrounds that I read but because I haven't been watching them for years their lack of progression doesn't bother me in the wonderful world of fic!

I love epic fics and one shots equally. As long as their well-written (I'm a snob) and in-character, I'm game.

Bring on the recs...

Here ya go!

The Red and the Grey- Fucking brilliant and epic. A nice long multi-chapter with a good plot, and some awesome Jane/Lisbon.

Littlemender- Holiday/Next time series and Lost at Sea are great.

221b Baker Street- Brilliant author is brilliant. Most of her stories only hint at Jane/Lisbon, though. But she writes some great plot. Absolute favorite is a Road IEss TreveleD, and it builds up to a bit of Jane/Lisbon. Mostly I just love the plot, though.

Lady_of_Scarlet's fic- Link is to master fic list, just scroll down for Mentalist. This is Not Your Grave and Five Times Jane Watched Lisbon Die (And One Time He Didn't) are fantastic. Though, both are angsty especially the latter (as the title suggests). And I might be a little bit biased towards both. Heh. But Scarlet is an amazing writer, there is no question of that.

Hardly Loquacious- Lots of multi-chaptered stuff. Most of it is fairly light, but there's probably a little angst thrown in there, too... )

Sooooo you would think after all my years in fandom I would know better than to start reading an Epic Fic late at night when I have a 5am wake-up. Apparently not.

I was up until 2:30 in the morning reading The Red and The Grey. SO. FANTASTIC. OMG.

I may be sleep deprived, but I enjoyed the fic so much that I don't really mind so much.

I think that TNT is playing 3 or 4 eps a night (and in order!) so hopefully I can jump on that one. Will have to find the latest eps too!! Wonder how many I can watch before the premiere of the new season. Oh, this is going to be a FUN game to play.

GOOD VID. Didn't understand a lot of the scenes in it but I loved the overall feel. I'll probably be going on a vid-binge in a couple weeks once I start watching more episodes.

The obsession. It's imminent...

I also have a bunch of fic recs here: http://delicious.com/anr/!fic.rec+jane/lisbon
and I may have been known to write it myself once before. :)

I did indeed read yours! Loved it, obviously. Although I may be a bit biased since, ya write, everything you read tends to be AMAZING.

Been working through the couple of rec lists that I have and (not to sound like a perv) but do you have any that may be more in the R or Mature rating? Most that I've found are T but I'm desperate for some well-written darkness or smut or something. Mwahahaaa...

I started off loving this show, but s2 onwards, it lost me. Like someone else said, Jane's relationships don't evolve with the team, and the show is predicated on him ALWAYS BEING RIGHT and everyone else being TOO STUPID TO LIVE. It really irritates me how they promote him at Lisbon's expense. In the first season, I felt like they were partners, but s2 started this thing where he cuts her out of the loop and openly disrespects her and has no regard for her feelings and it FRUSTRATES ME SO. And then it gets worse, for me, when she stops caring about regulations and aiding and abetting him and basically encouraging him in his antics, instead of trying to keep him in line, it feels like he's...worn her down and she's had to stop caring because it won't do any good ( ... )

I feel like this is one like NCIS where I may get REALLY into the pairing/fandom for a few months and then it just kind of sits on the back burner and I can enjoy watching episodes here and there but don't get super crazy invested in it.

I...can kinda deal with that I think.
