The hot 3 o’clock afternoon was always the perfect time to look out of the classroom windows, down on to the bed of green, fresh, meadow grass in which the most beautiful garden of the University sat. This was because it was the best time to gaze on the royalties gracing the garden with their beauty and influence. Girls would always love to stare and giggle at the two very young prodigies, who were not only blessed with good looks but also talents and riches.
Yaotome Hikaru. 17. Shy . Quiet. Reserved. Always perceived as clever yet aloof…characteristics that the 18 year old Yabu Kota was perceived not to be much blessed with. Daring. Dashing. Sociable. He was the one who always had something to say, right or wrong. Yet both were stunning with their own charms.
However, that garden wouldn’t be over-ornamented without the strong presence of the darling of the Duke’s house. Ana. The most beautiful at 17. Smart. Outgoing. Independent but alarmingly liberated after coming back home from living abroad for a year.
It has been a week since she came back and she was telling them about just anything and everything that she encountered in the US.
“You know, I met this really, really handsome guy, he was 18 maybe and he drove me to the park and bought us soda and we talked…He seemed nice and friendly. But of course no one matches Kota. I never gave him a kiss” she proudly reported and after, leaned her head on her fiancé’s right shoulder.
“You could do whatever you want, Ana. Nothing about this engagement says we can’t go out and kiss anyone we like. Besides, if it was indeed in the rules, I’ve already violated it many times” Kota answered while twirling the pen on the table.
Ana gave a sarcastic laugh. “You and your dirty tricks, Kota. I never imagined I’ll be marrying you when I get back. Why does it have to be you? You know, if I had to choose, I’d go for Hikaru. He’s my type after all. Quiet but brainy. He’ll be able to run the business in the future.” She turned to the other one who was just looking at them behind his book.
“Too bad for you then. I’m the older one, so I get to marry you first. I wouldn’t marry you either if given the chance. I know you too well.” He said the last line like a whisper while resting his head on hers too.
Nothing about that was rude, neither touching. It was because of the many years they had all been living together in that villa of royalties, that they were just used to talking that way to each other. There were too many things which only they would understand.
While 3 o’clock was tea time for the privileged, not so far away, she was already ready to get those flowers ready for pick up and drive her way to that place where people less visited. She had to say those words to the only person she trusted in life.
“Please guide me until the end.”
