You manage to convey an entire story through chat transcripts...and yet the transcripts themselves are still very believable.

Yup. Jealous, yet again. ;)

Transcripts are "just" dialogue, right? And they're actually a whole lot easier than normal dialogue, because the participants in a chat conversation know that this text is all the other party is seeing, so they oblige you, the author, in making things they want explicit explicit :P

What happens if I'm jealous of you in turn? Do we get into a paradox that destroys the universe?

Nah. I think it means we should IM or email about writing. :P

THIS IS SO COOL. Friggen IRC chat - that brings back some memories. I love the little details you guys added in, like the topics and whatnot. I also LOL'ed IRL at this: "
have you ever had to read revolutionary poetry written in lolcat?" ...And I kind of want to read that now.

*hops on over to read the companion piece*

okay, so

the revolutionary poetry written in lolcat

it kinda exists

It was one of the things I actually wrote up, back when we were all playing in this world. I can, um, direct-copy-paste from that, right now, if you'd like.

But I have to warn you and stick a big fat [ARE YOU SURE] sign on it, because, um. It's revolutionary poetry. Written in lolcat.

I would like to note to the jury that porn_this_way, as well as any further readers who continue beyond this point, asked for it.

have you ever had to read revolutionary poetry written in lolcat?

Is it strange that I really, really want to now?

I liked this idea and the potential attached to it so much. It's like a less twist-endy version of a creepypasta. And, because the twisty-endy parts of creepypasta are the parts that usually lose me, that makes this so much cooler.

Never mind. I read it. It was lolz.

Okay, one more comment (because the idea of weaponized memes has really grabbed me and won't let go).

Much of the evidence has been redacted, but every once in a while, hidden in seemingly random FOIA requests, you run across rumors of something called the Logistical Operation of Language Communicating Arbitrary Textual Simplicity program. That's what this is about, and that's what has officials in every circle terrified.

Hahahahaha, yes.

but yea, I mean - the concept of a meme is really just the concept of an idea that is geared to spreading itself, right? We can engineer viruses because we understand biology, and we can engineer the other kind of viruses because we understand computer systems.

So how long until we have enough of an understanding of psychology? Arguably, we're a huge part of the way already there, we just call it "Consumer Response" and "Marketing" instead.

*licks yer brain*

SO MUCH FREAKIN' work here and thought. I, too, copied this to paste - have you ever had to read revolutionary poetry written in lolcat? And now am gloriously slated with the example. Perhaps there is more story around, in, under, between that idea.

Here's something, and it is probably just me, but the "girl" as endearment even in distress...threw me out of the dialogue. I'm not sure why (again, see, me) but it felt somewhat out-of-established-character.

Carry on. This was wondrous!

Oh, that's interesting. I'm going to have to dig into that to figure it out - "girl" sounded extremely natural in my head, but I may be anchoring on a different sort of person than who Vandersen is!

Thanks very much for reading and your exceedingly kind words :D

It could be me. I hear "girl" as endearment and my body brain goes straight to Daryl Dixon of The Walking Dead....and your man just wasn't sounding Georgian redneck to me prior.

So, see, yeah, it could be me.
