Driving Mr. Daisy

Yesterday morning I woke up with the intention of taking spousal unit to the doctor and then heading off to work, it didn't quite work out that way naturally.

He was given an 8 am appointment or so he thought, what they should have said was get there for 8 but its really a first come first serve kinda deal and the doctor does not really get in for 8 more 9.30ish okay maybe 10. Fine its the outpatient part of the nursing home I took him too on Saturday so there are loads of scarily broken people there. The doctor finally arrives, sees the seven people before us and then we go in. He didn't think the damage was to the bones themselves, no breaks, splinters anything but he may have torn the bicep muscle from the shoulder, which would explain the livid bruising on his arm leading down from there. Doctor cooly explained that he does need an MRI and depending on how that goes he may need surgery O_O! I did not collapse into a heap.

Now after 11, closer to 12, no breakfast in stomach. I took him to his office where he spoke to the safety officer at length, who berrated him for not calling him right away and told him if he had he would not have had to pay for a thing, the company would take care of it. Anyway he did up a couple of letters, one to the head office seeking reimbursement for the money he paid between Saturday and Monday in doctors visits, one to the MRI Centre saying that the company will cover the costs (thank god) and another one to HR stating that he will be on sick leave until he gets an all clear from the doctors. This stop lasted another hour, still no breakfast. The Safety officer also had dealings with the ortho doctor we had gone to see that morning and told us that he would send him to another one when the MRI results came in as essentially that doctor loves to say operation when its not really necessary adn as he is the one performing the operation his motives are pretty much clear. Thankfully as the accident happened on the job he is going to keep getting his basic salary for a long as he is home ill, safety guy says that even if that is 10 years or more, I knew that OSH Act would come in handy one day.

Somewhere between the leaving the doctor and waiting for him to be finished at his job and realising that we had to go into town next I called the office and let them know I would not be coming in afterall as it was already after 11 and would not make any type of sense whatsoever.

As we were heading into town to go make the appointment at the MRI centre, stopped off and finally got something to eat and then joined the traffic heading into POS. As it was after 2pm he wanted us to turn around and head back home but as he cannot drive and I cannot afford to take another day in which to drive him around to make appointments and whatnot I ignored him and pressed on. The traffic was only up to a certain point...same point everyday which is another reason why I wasn't too worried about us getting back in time to pick up the spawn who had gymnastics that afternoon after school. Got to the head office dropped off letters, got to centre made appointment for Wednesday at 1pm and got out of Port of Spain in record time. So much so that we had to stop in by his parents on the way back as it was only 3.30 and we did not have to pick up spawn until 4.30 closer to 5 as those instructors obviously have no sympathy for tired parents.

Got home after 5, got spawn into shower and then doing her home work, made a cheese and cracker platter for them as a snack and then made tacos for dinner, see I'm sticking to my cook for them be good mother and wife pledge, fed spawn as spousal unit disappeared upstairs to "rest" aka go to sleep and not wake up until morning, checked homework, corrected homework, let spawn watch a few mintues of tele before her bedtime at 8pm and then collapsed onto the couch and waited the hours for Heroes to start while not being able to really keep eyes open but perservering anyway.

Its the morning after and I feel as if someone took a baseball bat to me. I ache all over and just want to curl up in a ball and go to sleep for a very long time. This morning above all others it felt as if quarter to five came way to soon. I wish I took the day off today as well, but someone has to work around here, especially at a job where getting damaged is hardly likely.
