On the first day of 2058, Jack had dropped him off at home, after a New Year´s celebration with him and his family. An overwhelming feeling of Aaron sitting in Spencer´s favorite chair waiting for him, had come over him as he walked up to the front door and he´d rushed inside the door only to find the house empty. After sitting in the dark, letting his mind wonder he had known it was time to set his affairs in order and mentally made a list of things he needed to get done.

He had met with his lawyer, updated his will and made arrangements, made sure everything was in order and would be taken care of, he wanted to be as little bother as possible.

A few days ago, he´d sat down and written his last letter, on his favorite stationary and with the pen Aaron had given him. It was to Jack, explaining everything he´d done and his wishes for the funeral and ceremony. Enclosing the important papers he sealed the envelope and put in a drawer where he knew Jack would find it.

He´d looked over the pictures that decorated his home-office, touching each and every one of them and reciting their names to make sure he hadn´t forgotten any of them. They were his family. Even when he´d retired after Aaron´s death, they´d all kept in contact, making sure to meet at least once a month and the tradition had kept even when Prentiss, Morgan and Will had left this world.

There was the picture of Jack with his wife Hanna and their children, Aaron David and Elisabeth Haley. Another picture was of Morgan, Garcia and the twins; Lucas and Raymond. Henry´s family photo was next, featuring JJ and Will along with Henry´s in-laws standing behind Henry´s wife, Susan. They were desperately trying for children and he hoped that one day they´d have their wish. Ashley, Emily and Rossi´s daughter, smiled from a picture taken at her ballet-recital, her features strikingly like her fathers. All of the “children” called him Pops, a name Jack had given him few months after Aaron and he had moved in together and it had stuck.

He picked up a picture of Aaron standing next to Rossi, both man were smiling. Rossi had passed away four years after Aaron. It had been a shock when Emily had called him from the hospital and told him Dave had collapsed at home but when he arrived at the hospital it was too late. He´d died from a heart attack. It wasn´t hard to imagine them sitting together, sharing a bottle of scotch and stories from life, waiting for their loved ones.

He lay in bed and stared at the familiar ceiling. It had been a good week, he´d managed to finish his list and he was ready. He stretched out the arm to the empty side next to him and caressed the cover with the back of his hand.

“I´m ready, Aaron,” he whispered into the thin air. He´d been waiting for this for thirty-five years, nine months and twenty two days. As much as he knew he´d miss his family, he was ready to go home.

”Spencer, wake up,” was said quietly into his ear and Spencer opened his eyes. Aaron smiled down at him and Spencer gasped at the sight. He easily jumped to his feet and with enthusiasm and joy hugged the man he´d loved for so many years, only to have familiar arms embrace him, ohh, how he´d missed this.

“It´s you isn´t it? Please tell me this is real and I´m not dreaming,” he whispered quietly and balled the back of Aaron´s T-shirt in his fists.

Aaron smiled and looked at him. “Welcome home,” he said and kissed him.
