Ugh,
UMN's Classical and Near Eastern Studies Department!!! I call you out!!! In email you say you're accepting PhD applications for all programs, but suddenly the website says "Not accepting applications for the Art and Archaeology PhD for the foreseeable future." At UMN, Canepa's still very much junior faculty, McNally is emerita, Andrea Berlin left (for Boston?), and Fred Cooper passed away last month. That's probably why they're not accepting applications.

Also look at the IFA at NYU. Their Classics department is heavily philological and has little to do with material culture. The new ISAW may be different.

Mizzou's a good choice, as we've talked about.

Congrats on the GREs by the way. My scores are now 5 years old...another thing keeping me from going somewhere else. :/

Yeah, I put the "researching this one" on the wrong classics department entry...edit #3 to make.

I was looking at the IFA and was, for me, worried about the more student-driven program. I know myself, I can talk myself out of almost anything. I work better within in a more ridged/structured structure, I'm still looking into it though. If given enough leeway, I'll spend a year reading fanfiction.

I think student-driven is good. My current situation is what it is in part because I'm kept from driving myself. At least NYU has a very specific plan for what you're supposed to do each year.

It just occurred to me that your post isn't locked. Hmmm. There are some things that I wish I hadn't said publicly.
