This is about the time of year when people start talking about the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival (sic). For some women (use of conventional spelling intentional), MWMF, or simply "Michigan," is a weekend-long (rather expensive) expression of sisterhood.

For a small minority of women, including myself, it's a symbol of extremism. As anybody who's ( Read more... )

the majority of the feminist blogs and forums and the like that I follow have an article every year about this festival. And they call for folks to boycott it.

And many have, so now the festival is made up almost entirely of people who have sand in their brains. Possibly sand a bit lower as well.

I'd count that fest as a lost cause that has become irrelevant in modern feminist thought--aside from the fact that a lot of folks really like making fun of them. It'll go away and nobody will mourn it's passing. There might be cake.

On the upside, I heard that Lillith Fair is making a comeback, so keep an eye out for that one.

I've heard other feminists who dislike the Michigan festival argue that the same logic that's used to exclude men and transwomen could also be used to ban lesbian women. You know, in the name of creating a safe space for women. This sort of indicates that this is bad logic.

Speaking as one who was born female and cisgendered (more or less) I would rather do unpleasant things to my eyes with toothpicks than attend the Michigan festival.

And now you know...the rest of the story.

Good day!
