Emmett Till was 14 years old when he was killed by a group of white men. Emmett Till was born and raised in the north for 14 years and on his first trip to the south he whistled to a white woman and was beat and killed for it. He did not know the rules of the south. When taken to court the white men won. At his bural his mother, a VERY outspoken woman decided to have an open casket wake so that people could see her son.
This was the REAL spark of the Civil Rights Movement. This makes me sad and angry because this is what it took for the black of the north to realise what was going on in the south and this is what it took for people to really start FIGTHING for freedom and end to racism.
