Kadaj and Yazoo pay a visit.
Brrr, it's another chilly winter evening, and the sun is just starting to set in the sky. Not that much sunlight can be seen through the cracks in the gloomy and depressive dome that envelopes the slums of Midgar. The church was one of the few cheerful places in the slums, and one of the few places where sun shone through from the upper plates and it is from here that a certain individual emerges, wrapped in a thick woolen white mage's cloak. In a place where flowers dont grow often, she certainly attracts a lot of attention with the cheerful basket of flowers she carries with and apparently is selling to the many downtrodden residents of the slums.
There are far better places for one blessed by Mother to be. The slums represent a filth that Kadaj can barely tolerate. But he isn't one to give up easily. There is still one member of his immediate family missing. He knows that his brother once came to this Church to play, and he can't shake the feeling that it's here that they should wait. Loz will return. He will sense and seek them out the way Kadaj sensed Yazoo. He refuses to believe that their rebirth weakened their bond. He watches from the window of an abandoned building that they'd taken shelter in. And finally Kadaj's patience - something that he doesn't come by easily - has paid off. "Well Brother, what do we have here?" Though it's not Loz, someone has come out of the church.
Yazoo has been resting awhile since his arrival in this world was a difficult one and he was still injured from the death he experience. However, he's regained a lot of his strength since then thanks to his brother's care. Now he gets up from his seat on the bed and walks over to the window to see what Kadaj has spotted this time, only to smile a little to himself. "A caretaker of the church?" Something like that. Hard to tell with that cloak she's wearing. But he knows Kadaj is probably thinking the same thing he is. This might be a good person to question about the whereabouts of their lost brother.
Shivering a bit in the cool winter night, Aerith seems totally oblivious to the pair lurking about somewhere nearby. She's had another long and hard day working with the injured and the sick at the church, and it was time to get some rest. As always, she is accosted by several eager children and their parents, glad to see some light shining in the otherwise dull and depressing slums. Although she's obviously exhausted, she makes idle chatter with the children, handing out flowers to the parents and once again earning enough money to make ends meet. Once the eager kids scatter, their parents ushering them away into the night, Aerith is alone, the streets quiet and peaceful for once. She continues down the street, slowly heading towards sector 6 and home. Although its still quite a ways away, she takes her time, not seeming to be in any hurry and afterall, why should she be?
"But who takes care of the caretaker?" Kadaj chuckles softly. But his amusement fades before he speaks again. "Let's go introduce ourselves." It's the neighborly thing to do! Kadaj makes his way outside with Yazoo but watches from the shadows for a bit longer. There's a disgusted hiss at the sight of the flowers being passed out. But eventually the others have scattered like the vermin Kadaj believes them to be. The pair start their approach again, and they might just get pretty close with all the black that they're wearing. Kadaj stops a few feet away, deliberately in the girl's path. "Don't you have a curfew?" The silver-haired man smirks along with the question. "Why, there's no telling what you could run into out here!" Kadaj makes a sweeping gesture with his arms to emphasize that point. "Isn't that right Brother?"
Yazoo follows his brother without question as they leave the room and take to the streets, moving like shadows through the slums until they've cut off the path of the flower girl. After Kadaj says his name, the second brother, or really the oldest of the three, slowly slinks out of the shadows behind him, his arms crossing casually over his chest. "Of course, brother." Aerith could get into some real trouble! The streets are crawling with dogs, similar to the ones she was so happily giving her flowers to for instance. The pair of brothers are far too good to even set foot on this ground, but sometimes they have to suffer for their cause.
Well..She was in high spirits, until the shadowy figures made their sudden appearance. She gasps in surprise, taking a step backwards, clutching her flower basket tightly to her chest. A sudden gust of ice cold wind jerks the hood back from her face and her eyes widen in surprise as she regards Kadaj first. Although the voice isnt familiar, something about the excessive black leather, the silver hair and piercing green eyes just scream one word at her. "What..? Sephiroth?" but no..There's something different about him. He seems..Younger. She bites her lip, glancing about as if searching for a place to run, but then another one drops in! By this time, Aerith is really starting to panic, her heart racing as she glances back and forth between the two of them. If they're anything like Sephiroth, there's no way she could outrun them! "Who are you people? What do you want?"
The cold wind doesn't seem to effect him beyond the stirring of those silver strands of hair, but their heads are the only things exposed to the elements. The first thing Kadaj wanted to do was 'suggest' a change in occupation...peddling those disgusting flowers. But a couple of other things scream for his attention first. Her voice. It feels like he's heard it before, but Kadaj knows it's not possible. And then she says something that really hooks him, causing his eyes to narrow on her as quick steps bring Kadaj closer. "How do you know -his- name?" His voice becomes razor sharp until he realizes that it's probably not uncommon for someone to know of Sephiroth, given his legacy. "Why are you looking at us that way?" He laughs. "We're only saying that you should be careful. And yet you accuse us."
The breeze doesn't bother Yazoo either. Those green eyes blink once in curiosity, then take on a curious look. She said that name? Well that was unexpected. And judging from her reaction she must know Sephiroth first hand to cringe the way she does. Like a frightened rabbit, Aerith looks for her chance of escape. There won't be any running away from the pair of them. When Kadaj steps quickly, Yazoo proceeds after him at a slower pace with a slight sway to his step. "Answer the question." If she knows what's good for her.
Aerith bites her lip, tightening her grasp on the flower basket in one hand. She had left her staff at home, hadnt really thought to bring it. Great. Let's just hope they only want to talk. Maybe she's just feeling a bit too paranoid. Maybe they're just more Sephiroth clones, like the black capes up in Nibelheim."Umm..I'm sorry, I thought you were...Him." she swallows, shrugging at the question. "Of course I know Sephiroth. Who doesnt?" she laughs rather nervously at that, choosing not to say too much. "You just reminded me of him, but who are you? Do you come from..Nibelheim, maybe?" And why does she still get this unnerving feeling in the back of her head..Her Cetra senses are tingling!
Kadaj twitches a little when she admits to thinking he was Sephiroth at first. Wouldn't it be an easy mistake to make though? Kadaj has always and still has mixed emotions about that. It can't be what Mother wants now though, can it? If she really preferred that man...well, none of them would be here. That's what Kadaj chooses to believe. "I guess he would be infamous for failing. An example of what not to do." He looks back at Yazoo for confirmation before returning his attention to Aerith. "Who are we?" He repeats the question before smirking at her. "If you know who he is, you should know who we are too. Unless..." Kadaj trails off and tilts his head at her. "You must not have been around to get an invitation." He leans a little closer to look her in the eyes. "Don't worry. We'll make sure you get one next time. Along with everyone else." Yazoo might need to remind him of what their first mission is though.
Yazoo walks his way slowly around the pair until he's slightly behind Aerith. His head tilts up slightly and his hand moves toward her side, reaching to try and gently take the basket from her fingers, provided she doesn't yank them from his grasp. Just the hint of his fingers against hers though might put her on edge enough to make her let the basket go. "But first we have to find our family." He reminds Kadaj gently and also informs Aerith. Without Loz how can anything be done? It just wouldn't be the same.
Aerith narrows her eyes at Kadaj in return, refusing to look away, to show anymore weakness if she can help it. "You think he failed?" she shrugs, "I guess it depends on how you look at it.." well, obviously, there's no love lost on the real Sephiroth from these two. That might be a good thing.."No, I'm afraid I've never seen you two before, although you remind me of the 'clones' in Nibelheim. But there's something different in you still. Those black capes had lost their minds. You two obviously havent, and...Hey!!"
She turns around, facing Yazoo suddenly as he reaches for her basket which she gives up without any resistance. No point getting into a fight over it. "My flowers!" but even as she moves to grab them back from Yazoo, she catches herself, staring at him curiously as he mentions 'family'. "Umm..Who is your family? Is there someone in particular who you're looking for?"
Kadaj wants to recoil himself really. She looks and smells so...pure. He catches himself wondering who she is too. But she's right that they haven't lost their minds. Though sometimes it's a balancing act for Kadaj. "I have good news!" He just saved a lot of money on his car insurance! Wait, that's not it. "You'll be seeing a lot more of us from now on." Kadaj takes a step closer and tramples a fallen flower underneath his boot, like it's a flame that needs to be put out. He's really glad Yazoo managed to get them away from her. "We're looking for our brother." Suddenly his voice sounds impatient. "I'm tired of playing with you. If you've seen anyone who looks like us, you'd better spit it out." Someone who looks like them, not Sephiroth or the clones. The difference may exist only in his mind. "He's been to that place before." Kadaj nods in the church's direction.
The flowers are swiftly taken and the basket is held right behind Yazoo's back, should Aerith try to advance for them. She probably doesn't want to get that close to the smiling remnant of Sephiroth! They don't take any pains to hide the fact that they're armed, either. Yazoo's gun is holstered on his back as usual. "He's taller than us, but he's our brother." So they do have some similar features of course like the color of their eyes and the color of their hair. "Have you seen him? Be truthful now." She won't like it if Yazoo thinks she's lying.
Aerith shivers as she watches him crumble the delicate petals. In turn, she can nearly sense the scent of Jenova on them..Almost. Being around them is like being around Sephiroth, only..They seemed younger, somehow, incomplete, but she couldnt put a finger on just what that meant or how. "Umm..Your brother? I guess you're not talking about Sephiroth then. He wouldnt come within a mile of Midgar anyways.." she sighs, shrugging, "Sorry, but I havent seen anyone else looking like either of you. That's the truth." though when he suggests he had been in her church, she arches a curious brow at that, "To the church? Is he suffering from Geostigma?" No..That couldnt be it.
"I live here. I'm sure I'll run into him sooner or later." the thought causes her to smile grimly. She'd rather not run into another Sephiroth clone, but, perhaps she can find out more about these strange people then. "And who should I tell him is looking for him?" As for the flowers, she's given up on them. She is rather attached to her life, thank you!

Kadaj appears curious when she says that Sephiroth wouldn't come within a mile of Midgar. At least that's one thing in Midgar's favor. But apparently she must know recent information about that man. And he's amused when she asks if Loz is 'suffering' from Geostigma. "Well then, if you're so certain, then perhaps we should wait with you." They wouldn't want anyone else to greet their brother before they had the chance, not if they could help it! Kadaj also hadn't expected much of her at first, but it may be that there's information to be gleaned from her...one way or another. "Instead of wandering the streets, where we might cross paths with a few of those children." And who knows what might happen then.
"In the church?" Even Yazoo is surprised that Kadaj would suggest such a thing. Neither of them really care for the place with its holy feel to it but Yazoo could stand it if he has to. And if it'll help them to find Loz he could suffer it. The oldest remnant turns and walks away a few steps, reaching into the basket for one of the flowers. He picks it up to look at it, holding it between his gloved fingers. After a moment though the plant begins to wither and die, falling to the ground in flakes. Such temporary things.
Stay with her?! Aerith looks visibly alarmed at the thought, glancing back and forth between the looming Kadaj and the flower killing Yazoo...Brr, in some respects, they're even creepier than Sephiroth! She feels the sudden urge to run for the church, but realizes that they'd probably slit her throat before she could even reach the front steps. Ugh, what to do.."Um..I dont think you'd find him at the church at this time of night, not unless he's a very religious type of person." she smiles grimly at her little joke, trying to ease her own tension more than anyone around her. As Yazoo strangles her poor little flower, she has to try very hard to resist the urge to slap him..Grr..Where's Cloud when you need him?
Turning physically away from the church, she peers back at Kadaj, shrugging, "Anyways, he's probably turned in for the night at some inn in Sector 5, or probably the Wall Market. They're open pretty late.." Of course the thought of them threatenning those kids gnaws at her too. Maybe she can buy them some time to get home safely first.
If it were the First Church of Mother, then the three of them would be considered very religious men. But it's not. Kadaj continues to study her, a strand of silver hair falling down in front of his right eye and breaking up the mako glow. As amusing as she was just moments ago, that feeling is fading. She's like a bird, faking injury to lead him away from the nest, and Kadaj sees through it. "Do you think you know him better than we do?" That borders on blasphemy! The silver-haired man stares her down for a moment longer before laughing. "But if you have somewhere you need to be, then by all means, go." He steps to the side, gesturing to the path that's opened up for her. But her escape leaves them alone with the Church. More importantly, it would put both of them at her back. And not many people would feel safe doing that. He tilts his head, wondering what she'll do. She's an amusing one. Unfortunate that she's not one of their flock.
"I thought church people were supposed to be giving." Yazoo murmurs, picking up one of the pink flowers next. It looks so delicate poised between his fingers, but soon it also starts to wither and fold over, then flakes into the air and disappears. It's of no surprise to him that Aerith doesn't really want to help them. All humans and creatures of the planet are that way. Selfish. Hypocritical. It's no wonder they have to change things for Mother.
He may be considerably younger than Sephiroth, but he's certainly cunning. And Aerith sees immediately through the ruse, she could never leave and turn her back on the church, allow them to poison it with..Whatever that strange, and disturbing aura it is that they carry with them. If they're anything like Sephiroth, they might just poison the healing pools! She clenches her fists, ignoring Yazoo's torturing of her poor flowers, caught between protecting those kids and protecting the church, forgetting for a moment that her own life just may be in danger the longer she stays here. Or does it really matter now, either way, she's in danger.
Aerith draws a deep breath, looking Kadaj defiantly in the eye and smiles cooly, even as her voice remains that gentle, honeysweet tone of mezzo soprano. Might as well find out as much from these strangers as possible. "I'll wait. I'm in no hurry. And you're right, I'll help if I can." besides, she's got questions. Lots of questions. "Hmm, so who else is a part of your 'flock?'" flock? Could they be more Jenova creations? She gasps at the possibility..Could this be another reunion? It might just make sense. They certainly arent just brainless clones, and they're not dressed like typical SOLDIERS. Maybe Hojo made more than one successful Sephiroth. "Hmm let me see..I'll bet you're all working for Jenova, arent you? Well I'm sure ShinRa could help you more there."
Lower Midgar - Sector 5
The outskirts of Lower Sector Five have seen better days, but since the majority of the rickety old homes here have either collapsed or been abandoned, it's little more than a haven for theives.
The Church is the first thing to see when passing through sector 5. Having been rebuilt to resemble its original form nearly exactly, it is a traditional style steepled church with a steep, arched roof top and beautiful, stained glass windows depicting numerous religious stories intermingled with colorful floral backgrounds that are positioned in such a way to capture the most amount of light that shines through the rooftops. An unusually bright and warm light seems to shine down upon the church from a hole blasted clean through the plate above, a whole that was never fixed even if the church was. It is this pure golden light that lends an eternal glow to the church, and provides the numerous wildflowers growing on the rooftop and in the small garden surrounding the church with nourishment.
Travelling deeper into the sector is simple enough, but leaving Midgar from here might be a little tough, given the close eye the guards here are keeping on things. A simple post has been established just inside Gate Five and if anyone looks suspicious enough, the guards are quick to question them.
"You're too kind." Keeping them company this way. Kadaj chuckles, his movements accompanied by the sound of creaking leather as he steps past her. He goes no further than the Church steps though. Maybe he doesn't have the stomach for it after all. He sits down there, his arms folding casually over his knees. He tilts his head, considering her first question for a moment. "I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'flock.'" A slight frown crosses his lips. "There've been many disappointments to Mother." With only three exceptions, of course. There's a blink before Kadaj's eyes widen. He's on his feet again and advancing towards Aerith. His gloved hands reach for her shoulders in an attempt to hold her steady. "Mother!" She knows about her too! "Where is she?!" The mention of Shinra causes a sharp hiss to escape him. "Do they have her again!" It figures that they'd try to fool him again!
Jenova? She knows that name? No common person would be able to speak that name. Not even all members of Shinra were privileged to the information about the harbinger from the skies. Aerith is more than she appears! "You made brother upset." Yazoo points out needlessly, smiling a little to himself as he lifts another flower, a pale white flower, and sets it to his smiling lips. It crumbles to pieces just a second later as the rest did, flaking into dust and blown away by the breeze. "We only want to see Mother." When Yazoo says it he makes the request sound so innocent. They are simply a family that wishes to be reunited.
Grr, leave the church alone! Dont come near it! She wants to scream at them, punch them in the gut..Anything! But she cant, she's not strong and powerful like Cloud and the others. She sighs inwardly at this realization, but then brightens, her slender lips tightenned in grim determination. She may not be strong and powerful like the others, but she's not stupid either. "Um..." taking a step towards the church, Aerith seems like she's about to try and get between Kadaj and the church, but then he suddenly grabs her shoulders, preventing her escape! "Ugh..Let go!" she pulls back, trying to pull free of his grip, her eyes widenned in sudden fear at the movement. Yes, she feels very much like a trapped bird right now, but darn it, she's certainly not gonig to go down like one!
She narrows her eyes, relaxing again. Fine, she'll play this game their way, if it's the only way. "I..I dont really know. Didnt Sephiroth carry her away somewhere? If the ShinRa doesnt have them, and that's a likely possibility, then I'm sure She is still in the northern crater..Wherever that is, now." Aerith is careful not to mention that the Northern Crater may very well have ceased to exist in this world. Wouldnt want to make them angrier afterall.
Finally, she glances back at Yazoo, smiling gently at him for a brief moment at the mention of mother. "Your..Mother? I see.." she draws a deep breath, "So...It's another reunion again, is it?"
Kadaj isn't too upset. Yet. Having Yazoo there does calm him somewhat, which keeps him from completely snapping. For a moment his grip tightens when she struggles, but then he suddenly lets go. "Oh, I get it." He starts piecing it together, his strained laughter hiding disappointment. But his tone turns mocking. "Big brother...that black sheep..." Cloud must've told this girl. After all, he'd lived at the church before, and if she hangs around then they're probably friends. But it is nice to think that he hasn't forgotten Mother either. Not that it'll do any good. Kadaj turns away from her and tilts his head to the side to watch Yazoo's continued destruction of the flowers. Each one is a small victory, just one less thing to offend Mother. "Reunion?" He repeats that word like it's a foreign one now. Kadaj keeps his back to her, but the smile can be heard in his voice. "Not exactly."
Yazoo is getting a little tired of all the small talk. This girl doesn't seem very helpful to him. If she can't tell them where Mother is than why should they keep her around? Kadaj must have something in store, but Yazoo hopes it'll involve his drawing his gun at some point. "Big brother is here?" Somewhere in this world? Yazoo doesn't remember running into Aerith in their own world so perhaps their brother really is here. "Maybe he knows where Mother is." Someone just has to know. The basket is finally dropped so a few of the flowers are spared after all as Yazoo turns to walk toward Kadaj and Aerith. "You're Mother's enemy, aren't you." All creatures of the planet are of course, but Aerith does seem to know a lot.
Phew, that's much better. She relaxes her shoulders once he lets go, his grip like ice to her Cetra senses. Brr. Creepy. But then this is just becoming more and more complicated, isnt it! "Umm..This flock of yours, do you mean the SOLDIERS who were injected with Jenova cells?" oh no! That would mean..Cloud and Zack! She's got to warn them! But as he denies having anything to do with the Reunion, she's even more perplexed, taking a cautious step towards him, and incidently, towards the church. "You...Know Cloud, dont you? You call him, 'Big brother?'" she laughs at the thought, shaking her head. How very ironic. He'd likely cut them down just for taking away her flowers like that. If only she knew where Cloud had wandered off to, this time. The next question of course causes the blood in her veins to nearly freeze and she tenses visibly as she stares at Yazoo. "What? Enemy of Jenova? Isnt everyone afraid of her?"
Kadaj seems doubtful at the thought that Cloud would know anything of use to them. "He's as worthless as -Him-." Yazoo will know who he's talking about. The one who failed mother not once, but twice. Mother's favorite. Even now the jealousy can be heard in Kadaj's voice. But that will change. Now that they've been given a second chance, they'll be the ones to prove themselves to Her. And this time they wouldn't need any 'help.' "I don't think she's strong enough to be Mother's enemy." Kadaj laughs. A flower girl? Please. But he's been led astray before. And if she is? Well...it's only a matter of time. First things first, and all that. "Even if some of them return to the fold, they'll still be second best." Kadaj might accept them, but the three remnants are still different. Special. "Why, there's nothing to fear at all!" Afraid of Mother? It's laughable! "But we can gladly end your fear if that's what you want..."
Yazoo tilts his head and smiles a little at his brother's words. He knows how jealous Kadaj can be but he also believes it's true that they're better than what came before. Even better than their older brothers because of their supreme devotion to their Mother and to each other. "Only because they know what they did was wrong. They hurt Mother." Wasn't she the one being used? "Brother, this girl is not very interesting." She doesn't seem to know anything that they really want to know and she wouldn't even help them. Maybe they should just get rid of her. Either way, Yazoo grows tired again. He still needs more time for his recovery.
Heh. If only they knew who and what she really was, then they wouldnt be so confident. It's soooo tempting to just blurt out everything, but she knows that would put her in more danger than keeping quiet. It's probably wiser to play the fool, play the 'innocent little flowergirl' routine. At least she's safer that way. She smiles defiantly back at the pair of Sephiroth-wannabes..For lack of a better word, and simply shrugs, "Is fear such a bad thing? Fear can make people strong too.." corner a wild animal, and it will lash out with surprising strength and viciousness. "Anyways, if you're curious, why dont you go search the church anyways? There's lots of little hiding places that most people dont know about in there..But I do.."
Kadaj can sense Yazoo's weakening state, putting him in complete agreement that they've wasted enough time here. He reaches back over his shoulder, slowing drawing Souba from it's sheath. Whatever light there is glimmers along one blade, casting the other deeper into shadow. His lips part with an exhale as he looks at Aerith, thinking about her words. The tip of his blade seeks a place under her chin, not enough to cut, but just enough to lift it up a little and expose her throat. And Kadaj is smiling viciously. "I wouldn't know." If fear is such a bad thing, that is. "Tell big brother that we said hello." Kadaj spins, placing his katana across his back again as he walks away. Yazoo needs to rest. Loz needs to be found. And then they can all find Mother together.
Yazoo sees no reason for them to venture into that disgustingly holy place. Loz isn't there, that much is obvious by now. If he were in there he'd probably be causing a rucus after all this time. "Let's meet again soon." Yazoo says with a serene smile as he turns to follow after Kadaj, his hair brushing against his back as he starts to walk into the dark streets.
Aerith catches her breath as the sword tickles her neck, the cold of the blade causing her to shiver, either from fear or from the cold itself. Who knows? Still, she clenches her fists, staring back at him defiantly, determined not to show anymore weakness. "You arent...Afraid, are you?" she smiles, emerald eyes narrowing on him, though there is no predatory glare in her eyes, only a gentle, serene calm. "Very well then. I'm sure we'll meet again. And I'll be sure to pass your message on..To both of your..Brothers.." as they turn and hurry off into the night, she heads off in the opposite direction, for the church. Her pace is slow however, deliberate. She's calm now, at least on the surface, even though she's still shivering inside. Maybe she'll just sleep there tonight. At least it's safe.
