movetheearth who asked for 'Mac/Jesse' she did want them on a date, but eff that.
What Mac hated was getting called out in the middle of the night. When she'd just gotten ready to actually sleep and then getting called for something. So when Ethan pulled her up on the comms and told her she was needed at the Medical Center, she had thought it was a case of one of the floors losing power, or the heat going, or something stupid like that.
She had not been prepared to walk in, be directed to the second floor and herded into the ward, finding three members of the team going over the basic physicals and a curtain drawn around another. Ethan stood just at the end of the ward, beside the drawn curtain, glancing between Mayspring and Collins. Mac gave Worth a small nod before she headed towards Ethan.
"What's going on?" She'd already stopped being annoyed and was working on being worried, she didn't like just how Ethan was watching her, like she'd lose it or break something. "Ethan?"
"You know that we sent out a mission yesterday?" She did, she'd been told to expect a new humvee, possibly a little used and dented but good enough for spare parts, so she nodded for Ethan to carry on. "It got a little, complicated." Mac glanced to the closed curtains then back at Ethan. "Dylan was injured."
And that's all she needs to barge through the curtains. She and Jesse may not have discussed things, they weren't dating, they weren't fucking, they were just close and occasionally indulged in a little bit of kissing and groping and so far that was where they wanted to be. But he was still a kid, he wasn't completely trained, he so was not ready for the kind of ops that they were running with the mutant taskforce. Instead of finding him beaten or battered or bruised, Jesse is sitting up on the bed, a nurse stitching up a gash on the side of his arm.
"Are you mentally deficient?" She knew that later she'd be apologising to Ethan, especially since they were in front of nurse staff and Jesse. "Don't fucking scare me like that you asswipe." Ethan had snippets of Mac's life before she was assigned to his camp, he knew that her fiancé had died on a mission, he knew that he had been forces, and she was entitled to a small freak out when Ethan got serious like that over Jesse getting a bullet graze. "Fuck sake," she ignored the look from the nurse, taking a seat on the bed and running a hand down Jesse's uninjured arm. "Didn't anyone teach you to dodge?"
Jesse just grips her hand when it reaches his, pulling her in close. "I'm fine, honest. It's just a graze." And it was, she could see that, but it still scared her, at least Ethan had scared her.
"Well, you'd be even better if you weren't getting shot you idiot." The nurse gave them a small smile before taping a piece of gauze over Jesse's arm and leaving them. Mac just knocked her hastily shoved on boots back off and pulled her legs up onto the bed, curling against Jesse and pressing her face into his neck. "We're gonna run some drills later, babe. Your reflexes need work."
Ethan sort of excused himself quietly, and Mac made note to track him down when she was calmer and apologise. But right then she was more interested in staying wrapped with Jesse.
